I've been an assistant high school football coach for 31 years and I have to say I really dislike the calling for the head coaches job. I know Coach Wright just a little bit, have been to multiple camps at NW, and am a NW Alum (was a walk-on scrub from 1990 - 91, never good enough to play, admittedly), but calling for the job of a HC who consistently wins just seems kind of over the top. If you feel that way then sure, share your opinion, but I have to share mine......yes of course I want to win every game all the time, of course I want that for NW, but those other teams out there are pretty good too.....they have great players, scholarships, and access to the portal.....all I'm saying is this: Is a Coach who is 58-17, made the playoffs every year but this one, good enough for me?? Absolutely. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong and I'll own it but I very much believe that Coach Wright is the right coach for Bearcat Football. My name is Kirk Henry btw.

If he was fired, who in thier right mind would want the position knowing if they have one bad year, "fans" will be calling for their job.......?
PS...hope your parents are doing well. Special people.

This has never been about "one bad year". It's the obvious decline in talent and production, especially on the offensive side of the ball. It's a slow slide that has sadly gained momentum.Originally posted by Bearcat06 View Post

I feel RW needs to get the young QBs more experience to prep for next year --- why was Hohensee still in there in the 4th Q against Northeastern? I am not saying go total youth movement and bench the seniors but let's give the young QBs more experience so they have an easier ramp up to next year.

Spot on. It seems so many fans forget the other team quite possibly wants to win as much as your team.Originally posted by BEARCAT View PostI've been an assistant high school football coach for 31 years and I have to say I really dislike the calling for the head coaches job. It's tough. NW was at a higher level than anyone has.ever been in D2. That level wasn't going to last forever. It's tough to determine if they have.fallen far enough to look for a new coach or not. If your benchmark is that crazy run of success they had, you probably aren't being realistic.
I think you have to look at things like recruiting and playcalling. Has the staff become so entitled that they think they don't have to stay up with the times, or put in the work to recruit? Are they running the same schemes over and over and expecting different results. Are they developing players to fit those schemes?
Has off-season participation and buy in dropped? Is there still a team culture like they had back then or have the players cliqued up and started pointing fingers?

Those seem to be the questions those claiming it is blasphemy to think about a change in HC are not thinking about. Things may look "okay" on the surface when behind the scenes are not. The most visible Public Metrics don't always tell the entire picture, lots of moving parts to be considered.Originally posted by Predatory Primates View PostIt's tough. no that is ridiculous. it is plausible that the next time it happens anywhere in terms of the longevity at that level is after we are dust if at all.Originally posted by Predatory Primates View PostIt's tough. the standard/benchmark is competing for & winning league titles. if you do that in this league you will turn out nationally elite teams often enough b/c the league is tough enough that its baked into the process.
from there you're looking at circumstances. if rw inherited a program that was down like your wright did or chris brown, josh lynn, etc we'd consider his run thus far a success & this yr a mere bump in the road. as it stands it's been a slow decline that cratered this yr & appears to still be sliding in the wrong direction.
the offense & needed changes were on the table & the alarms were sounding about our slide & the need for change on the offensive side of the ball when sturdy was hired & offensive assistants "sought other opportunities". you look at those records & elite defenses were dragging inept offenses kicking & screaming to successful seasons at a time when the rest of the league was also largely scuffling as evidenced by the lack of postseason success compared to previous years.
rich whiffed badly & he's either going to pull the rip cord on it to try & save himself or eventually go down with the ship. we'll find out soon enough.Last edited by northwest missouri state; 11-06-2023, 11:00 AM.Go Bearcats!

Oh, they are. Four kids from the high school my kid attends have been offered from NW. 3 of the 4 have been offered by Pitt, UCM and MoWest as well.Originally posted by GorillaTeacher View PostIf they aren’t recruiting right now, they’re behind. No rational NW fan is calling for his job bc of this season. Honestly, no rational fan should be regardless, but then we wouldn’t be fans, would we? The bigger concern is the steady decline in O starting in 2017. NW had lightning in a bottle with AD and RW together, similar to having MC and SB for so many years. It isn’t realistic to expect that to continue, but the O has to be better than it’s been.Originally posted by Gorilla John 92 View PostIs NW trying to go the Nebraska route? Nebraska has been irrelevant since they fired frank solich and he won 10 games. While I'm not sad that nw isn't going to the playoffs and lost to the mules, rw doesn't desrve to be fired for missing the playoffs this year.
