Well, this ended up being a big "just kidding" moment for the university.

From Nebraska TV: UNK no longer selling alcohol at football games this season - https://nebraska.tv/news/local/unk-n...es-this-season

Yeah. I was thinking this probably isn't the best idea at this level where most schools usually seem to just have a nominal security at these games.

Frat bros get drunk and do something stupid? In my experience you can sell alcohol and make money or you can not sell alcohol and folks will sneak it in.

I think most schools in the conference sell alcohol at games now.

Sounds like people didn't do enough homework ahead of time.

“UNK has decided not to move forward with alcohol sales at Loper football games this season," said UNK in an official statement. After careful review, insurance costs were cost-prohibitive for UNK and our concession vendor. We will revisit the concept in the offseason to evaluate options for future seasons.”

IUP has sold alcohol in its basketball arena for years now. It's never been an issue.

It's priced at 'big league' levels, so students aren't sitting in there slamming them like it's some quarter draft night at the local college bar. I think the cheapest beer you can order starts at like $10 or $11.

It's more for the older crowd - at least here, anyway. By and large, they don't make much money from it when it's all said and done.

I would be concerned about the drinking and driving and the underage issues and the liability. Long time ago we would drink a few and walk to Walton field. No issues with driving or getting caught.

Doesn't seem to hinder other D2 schools such as Wayne State up the road. Pueblo has been selling alcohol since they started so everyone else has figured it out.
