  • Poor Emporia State Video Production

Those guys need to step it up. Their production is not good. This past week in the football game they had wrong score of football game for most of second quarter. Audio of radio call was terribly muffled and distorted.

On Friday, vball match with UNK didn't start until mid late first set. Lousy camera angles and no announcer either. I have witnessed lots of issues. People pay good money for MIAA Network.

Everything's free there this year, correct? I guess you get what you pay for.

We do a terrible job at streaming almost everything. It's a joke that the conference charges without holding schools to a higher standard anyway, but I wish we would actually put some effort into making it watchable.

I think the real question is how much Hudl gets to keep of the stream fees for platform use? I’m sure the conference probably has to provide cameras, and schools provide labor. They could probably stream it for free on a YouTube premium channel.

no, pretty sure the schools buy all the needed equipment (Emporia probably does the minimum) and then pays for all the labor. Each school gets a quarterly check. In this age, good luck finding students/retirees/regular joe that wants to work for, I dunno, $10-20 per hour to be a camera person in the elements or 6 hours on a Saturday.

MIAA can demand better stuff but if you don't have the staff, you don't have the staff.

I figured if the conference got the schools to agree to expand replay review with 2 extra cameras, the conference would have provided them. Do the broadcast not use the same cameras?

Replay is a system that comes w/ cameras. Not necessarily the same views as the broadcast.

I don't want to hear any excuses for the school who.fired staff without cause, and gets more money from the state than the others.

I have watched several ks and mo high school YouTube streams with better video quality than some miaa schools.

My daughters went to Liberty North and they had a Sports TV program with a better setup than almost every MIAA school. Not sure if Pitt has a Sports TV program, but they do a good job with their productions... although for hoops I'd sure like to hear Eddie vs. the students they have doing their broadcasts.

UCM seems to have some more advanced graphics with their split screen showing what's going on on the field and their ads... but then they're bug at the bottom of the screen can't put 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th for the down... so they have 1 & 10, or 2 and 8... doh!

Seems like most have their radio broadcast for the sound, which is likely better than having students... but for those schools with broadcasting as majors then I understand why you'd have students doing the pxp and color.

I moonlighted in sports TV for about 30 years, while it isn't necessarily easy, it isn't rocket science.

This would explain a lot. Isn’t Emporia poor as **** or something? I feel like half the schools use it for their crap sports journalism students to get “experience” which is the cheap method and leads to some pretty poor quality. It is D2 though so I try to lower my expectations. All of the MIAA streams have been better than the trash flosports one UTPB put out in week 0.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. 140 bucks a year demands better ! Now some of the schools do a nice job! Others like Emporia are a joke!

i don’t mind students doing games. we have a broadcast school so it fits our mission. poor video quality is unacceptable though given what we see produced at other places.

You have to wonder how bad the broadcast program is when they can’t even produce their own football games. Lol NW does a pretty good job.
