  • Northeastern State Bowl Bound*

After not being invited to the playoffs after having their best season in 25 years(3 of their 8 wins were against LU(CA), LU(MO) and WCU(NAIA, 2nd season of football)), NSU has created their own bowl game. They are playing East Central University...

Definition of taking your ball and going home?

Good for them. Willing to put their title as best D2 team in Oklahoma on the line. That makes 3 GAC schools having post season play this year.

I think that's awesome. They are a pretty good team with several decent quality wins.

Guessing they had to get permission from the NCAA to add the game. Weird IMO but could start a trend with area schools (i.e. Missouri S&T Vs. Mo Southern)

It is the "First Nations Bowl" and is specifically tied to Native American heritage. I'm wondering if it's gonna be two Oklahoma schools each year. Are there any schools, (in maybe the RMAC?) that have similar tribal connections like the Oklahoma schools do?

            Congrats to the Riverhawks*
*I remember the 1st time they played NWMSU they were still the Redmen with school colors of green & white.

I don't think it qualifies for that because they weren't close enough to be mad about not making the playoffs.

Somebody came up with enough money decided to do it somehow they've gotten permission to host a game, ecu wants to come play I don't see where there's a problem.

Since ada is only a couple hours away minimal cost to make it happen.

I think it's a win all around I plan on going even if it's cold

Yes we beat the two Lincolns. But we also beat West Alabama UCO and Saginaw State. All on the road. kept West Florida within a touchdown if we hadn't dropped that last 5 minutes against msst, who finished six and five as well, we probably could have been in the playoffs no matter who else we played.

I think it was a really good schedule for an independent.

You know we were hoping for a .500 season. Eight and three well exceeds our expectations.

The indy strategy is working for NSU. They're a pretty darned good team this season, and you could kind of see it coming last year. Scheduling has to be tough, though.

I think they should sit down with WOU and CWU. They could fly out once and do a week 0 Saturday followed by a week 1 Thursday game.

The bowl is a good thing. It gives your team extra practices.

Yes but the glvc and Gsc matchups helped a bunch. Not sure they will get them again because of how much we won by. Lol.

That's what the coach is supposed to do. But if you know anything about D2 you know that you can't play eight games and lose by three points to a 6 and 5 team Plus the Lincoln and William Jewell wins didn't help because of SOS

Northeastern State has already mostly filled out their 2026 schedule, they only need 3 more games. I believe the independent experiment was only meant to last until then, and the MIAA and NSU would re-evaluate whether they would join the conference again for 2027. If they keep playing this well though I don't see why they wouldn't be let back in.

Next year, they have two games against D2 playoff qualifiers (UTPB and UWF) and they just added two FCS games (Northern Colorado and Stephen F. Austin), so they seem to be adopting an iron-sharpens-iron, anyone-anywhere-anytime scheduling approach, and it seems to be working. I think the bowl game is a great idea too, I'll really be pulling for them next year
