From the Founder's Desk: Brandon Misener's All-Quarter Century Team

Brandon wouldn't want to draw attention his way, but I'm posting this here anyway..haha.

Plenty of MIAA names on this list.

I worked on this with our guy Brandon to see this to the finish line a few days ago. It was fun to work through an initial list of about 200 and widdle it down to about 50 names total. QB and RB was seemingly the hardest part..with many HH winners at QB not making the final team, since only 2 were selected..first and second team.

This marks the first content release Brandon has created since his stroke..so I wanted to give a thumbs up to my guy for that. It's very difficult for B to piece a column together, so he and I collaborated on this and he was the brains behind it and I was the documenting it for him.

The team will surely be the cause of some debate, but we both knew that well before posting it. Feel free to offer thoughts on it or other selections that you would have included instead.

Brandon and I have chatted often about finding a way to keep him involved in D2Football.com and having an occasional editorial or column is seemingly going to be the best way, all things considered.

Nobody better to take a shot at an All-Quarter-Century Team.

There was some discussion about having a 1st and 2nd team HC..but that didn't make the final cut. Yes, AD was the name in that.

You clearly said the timeframe was 2000 to 2025. Mel won two natties in the 90s and one in the 2000s. He made it to many championship games, but Dorrel is a better choice in my opinion, and so is the Ferris Coach. They've won more than Mel has. I love Mel too, but for the period you specified, 2000 to 2025. Is he 3rd for this time frame? Making 5 NC games is big, only winning one in this time frame... not as impressive.

Kind of surprised to not see Nate Dreiling, even on 2nd team.

4x 1st Team All-America, National Defensive Player of the Year, retired with the 3rd most tackles in D2 history (Including leading the country as a freshman) and a National Championship. Doesn't have the NFL career that others do, but still a pretty stout statline.

I don't know how bad Ferris's program was before he arrived... 4 Nattys is an amazing accomplishment. Northwest was in bad shape before Mel got here. A little revisionist history around here seems to try to change that history. In the 20 years before Mel got to NW we didn't have back to back winning seasons. IIRC we beat Truman something like 16 out of the last 17 times we played them and we're still down I think 18 in the overall series. That's a long history of bad football.

Ferris is winning titles during a time the Division has never been shallower and the talent level has fallen off a cliff. For example, look at the dates of the players on the list. Not many recent listed at all. Which I agree with. I think the vast majority that have been around over those 25 years would not disagree.
