  • GNAC Pick'em: Week 5

After a week that went mostly as expected in the GNAC, we have a week that might be a bit different. The first game has Simon Fraser heading down I-5 to Western Oregon. I think this game might be closer than in years past. West Texas A&M heads to the inaugural night game at CWU's remodeled field. I hope they saved the "Hand Washing Only" sign for the new sink. Finally, Humboldt heads down to Azusa Pacific.

In the bonus games, the committee has selected four for this week. Colorado Mesa at Colorado Mines (everyone should dig ore), our old comrades Dixie State at Black Hills State, various Minnesotans with St. Cloud at MSU-Mankato, and finally New Mexico Highlands at TAMU-Kingsville.

So everyone has picked the same so far, EXCEPT for the SFU-WOU game, where more are picking SFU... Times are changing!

It's just a matter of time that SFU won't be the perennial Mudshark of the GNAC. Western Oregon better get use to being a bottom feeder.

My picks for this week ...

WOU 40, Simon Fraser 10 ... The Wolves beat Humboldt State and hung with an excellent APU team into the 4th quarter a couple of weeks ago. I like the Wolves' chances here.

CWU 33,WT A & M 21 ... Not sure how good West Texas is, they're usually pretty strong. CWU is great (again) and will battle an excellent Azusa team for the GNAC title.

Azusa Pacific 47, Humboldt 14 ... Remember not long ago when this game was epic and for league bragging rights? I remember it well. I also recall two NFL players on the Humboldt team, some great Lumberjack QB's, receivers, backs, and defensive players. Too bad two clowns had to ruin all this. I'd like to put an asterisk next to all of HSU's games this year: * Program ruined by bad, clueless people.

Colorado Mines 37,C-Mesa 21 ... Mines has it rolling, or is that digging? Nevertheless, they look playoff bound.

Dixie 33,Black Hills 14 ... GNAC traitors (sorry, can't help myself) Dixie wins easily over a winless club. RMAC announces 20 more schools joining conference.

Mankato 36,St. Cloud 30 ... Great ball game in the Midwest. Mankato looks strong this year.

Texas A & I (TAMUK) 37, New Mexico Highlands 21 ... Had to use the old moniker for our Javelina friends. Before I enrolled at Western Oregon, people were still talking about a thumping that Texas A & I handed a very good Wolves team in the first round of the NAIA playoffs. I believe they won in a shutout, 45-0 or something like that. Some of the players still in the community were raving about the greatness and talent of that A & I team. Because of that, they'll still be A & I to me.

I am surprised to see any one pick SFU over WOU. WOU has run the ball very well against CWU, APU and HSU. The QB has improved every week. Also, they were ahead of APU at half time and within 1 score with 2 minutes left in the game. WOU will win by 30. Also, have you seen the improvement from the WOU receivers? 2 one handed catches on Saturday were big time. WOU is actually on the RISE - I predict WOU goes 6-5 this year.

Sad News out of the off Topic forums for one of these games. Colorado Mesa player shot and killed.

SFU vs WOU is a pick'em. Can't wait to see what coach Ford can do with 3 recruiting classes under his belt.
