I am liking the input! Keep the ideas coming!! "The FIGHTIN' SCOTS" I really like that!!
But then the team that I am presently coaching is "The Fighting' Irish"!!!
Not too big on the "Scarlet Kilts" nor am I in favour of the name that the SFU Prof who started the discussion to change the name suggested- "The Tartans." Women's teams would definitely NOT be called the "Tarts"!!! (As a Canadian, I feel I must apologize for that comment....SORRY!)

The Sweet Tarts! One of my favorite candies when I was in junior high.
Also here is a very well written piece by SFU basketball athlete Othniel Spence detailing his struggles with racism and discomfort with the Clan nickname.
Regardless of the origins of the name, the Clan is now perceived in a much different light and it is time to change out of respect for the vast majority of the university's athletes who have voted for the change to happen.

Does my opinion being descended from a Scottish Clan no longer matter that the name isn't offensive and the term Vikings is more offensive as they attacked a lot of Scottland? There is even an island and Castle in Scottland that share my last name that I can trace my lineage back to. Should I have to denounce that heritage to a Scottish Clan? I'm asking these questions as a person of Scottish descent.

I'm not sure if the administration of a large university in Canada cares too much about the opinion of an American in eastern Washington, whether you're of Scottish descent or not...
