  • WIAA High School Football Suspended Until Spring 2021

    https://scorebooklive.com/washington...-four-seasons/

Football and volleyball, among other sports, have been delayed until early spring 2021 in what will be season 3 of a new 4 season 2020-21 school year of sports. Season will run from early March to early May. Interesting how this will impact college recruiting now that coaches cannot get to watch recruits in the fall. CWU has already offered quite a few players though.

I wonder if this will push the GNAC to doing the same. I imagine Oregon and California will follow suit.

That wouldn't surprise me at all, although this decision already does effect one Oregon school for all games and others with non-conference games with Washington schools. Idaho has also had a surge in cases so they may do the same and some of the smaller border schools play Washington schools to reduce travel costs.

Seattle Times raises a good point. If high school seniors with big time offers are on track to graduate early, then why even play their senior season?

That is a very good question, but for others it will be their chance to get offers if they were sitting behind a senior starter last season. How will people know if someone behind that 4* recruit that graduated this spring will be if they don't see much playing time and this will be their time to shine too. At some positions you will know especially on defense, but for QB's this will likely be their only opportunity to impress colleges.

Top D1 recruits have the luxury of not needing that senior season. But lots of overlooked D1 caliber players heavily rely on one more season to prove themselves. And D2/3/NAIA generally only recruit players during their fall senior seasons since that is really the only selection left. So it could really benefit CWU to already have offered over 20 players. There are a lot of those players who only have limited D1 offers or none at all yet despite many of those kids being D1 talent.
