  • No Spring Football Season

    https://www.gnacsports.com/gnac/news...-sports-plans/

They cite complexity of having a fall season to follow. Unclear if teams will be able to play non conference games.

Yeah, saw this in the paper this morning. Hopefully things are back to normal by the fall.

No real money to be made at D2 level, so understandable the Presidents ditched the sport for spring. NAIA doesn't make $ for it's football programs but about half the teams are playing this fall and the other half to try in the spring. IMO, this shows the difference between the two classifications: NAIA needs enrollment more than D2 schools in general.

It may be true that more NAIA schools are "small colleges" than are D2, but there are plenty of D2s (the majority, probably), that need enrollment just as bad as NAIA. The difference in playing and not playing is the costs that D2 schools are required to cover, under the guidelines the NCAA laid out, in order to return to play. The NAIA only has to test once, prior to the first competition.

For both sets of schools, it's true that there's no real money to be made, but it's also true that there's money to be lost (tuition) by not playing. The NCAA just has more money to lose either way.

It does look like teams will have the option of playing non-conference games next spring. CWU may schedule some, or at least some scrimmages.
