    Re: OT-Softball

Got to the WT game about 12:30 today and it was about 60 degrees. Left during the bottom half of the 2nd inning & it was 37 degrees. Game cancelled after the 2nd inning with WT leading 7-2.

HAHAHAHA. Sad how predictable it is. But funny as hell.

If softball doesnt win, then what?

Stadium talk? Enrollment numbers? Perhaps a taskforce to study the advantages of forming a Curling team?

That Minnesota State pitcher was phenomenal, and a pretty small girl, unlike a lot of your better softball pitchers.
Speaking of pretty small girls, yesterday Shayne Starkey put on an incredible show. Our starting pitcher gave up 4 runs in the first inning (2 earned) and the first 2 batters in the second inning got hits. Starkey hits a grand slam home run, then takes over pitching duties. She retires 15 straight batters in 5 innings, 9 by strikeout. She hits a triple which brought in another run. WT wins in a blowout. If she doesn't win player of the week I'll be shocked. By the way she leads the team with a .516 batting average and an on base percentage of .634. She also plays first base and left field, so she is rarely not in the game.

                Re: OT-Softball

Commerce ladies had a good weekend, sweeping 3 from previously unbeaten Tarleton. 2 of the 3 involved comeback wins - the kinds of games they were losing last year. We are finally fielding as many upper classmen as Freshmen and have a true #1 starter in Emily Otto. We also beat D1 #9 ranked Baylor in an exhibition a few weeks ago. We should be able to contend for the conference title this year.

Our Mariah Jameyson is on a roll. I hope teams dont completely quit pitching to her. Back to back National Player of the Week!

Without one of the best hitters in the conference (at least last year she was). Hopefully we have her back shortly. Also, our 1st Team AA isn't pitching anywhere near at the level she was last year.

ASU just run ruled a pretty good UCO team twice in one day - 5 innings both games. That is 12 of 21 games for 57%.

Thats unreal. Eastern is playing better this year than last, but right now if nothing else changes they are playing for a DISTANT second to the Rambelles along with everyone else.

Commerce is ranked #11 in the country. Dont count us out just yet. WT is also real good, ranked 15th. Y'all are playing for a distant 4th.

The only ranking I'm interested in is the last one in mid May.

WT has had some issues this year. Most of the new recruits have not impressed. Our new shortstop can hit, but she's been error prone, possibly due to injuries (she's had to leave 2 games). We don't have a right fielder than can hit, yet we cut several players last year that could. The only new pitcher to take the field this season has had major difficulties. Luckily we have a couple of other players who have been asked to pitch that have done very well. Our new catcher has done a great job, after playing short stop last year.

The game that concerned me was the second one against Tarleton, also a very good team. The infielders suddenly were unable to throw to each other. Our relief pitcher came in and gave up 8 runs in 2 innings but only one was earned. WT had 7 errors in the game, which accounted for the difference in an 8 run loss. However in the second game, the team rebounded to beat Tarleton in a well-played game.

Considering we have a new head coach and 12 new players, we are doing pretty well with a 15-3 record. I think the team will be better at the end of the season.
