Garrett is a great guy, has great morals & character, a player's coach....but just as he was as a player he is a good #2. Not THE guy.

Just finished watching Super Bowls XXVII & XXVIII. Man, the Cowboys had crazy talent. The team was sooo fast. Free Agency & Salary Cap KILLED that dynasty.

                    • Yes, he was greatly helped with the best trade in NFL history or worst whichever side you were on. Walker for half of Vikings team plus a wazoo of draft picks.

He orchestrated that trade. He knew exactly what he was doing and maximized the draft haul by releasing players (if I recall correctly). He deserved all the off the field credit for that run. And some on the field.

It was a good deal for a few games. And then turned into a terrible deal when JJ did what he did to maximize the deal.

Johnson came up with that trade idea. Jerry & Jimmy worked the deal that got 18 players PLUS draft picks. The best deal ever made in football. Without that trade you had a bottom dweller team.

Jimmy was talked out of the worst deal when he tried to trade Michael Irvin to the Raiders. It was Al Davis himself who talked Jimmy out of it. That was embarrassing for Jimmy.

Jimmy was successful because of Jerry & visa versa.

                          • Since this turned into a Cowboys thread... what are your thoughts on the new HC hire?

Not crazy about it but anyone with a pulse was better than Mr. Clappy. He is a good coach but not thrilled with the idea of a former coaching rival taking over. To me it would be like the Packers hiring Jimmy Johnson after firing McCarthy. We shall see and hope he chooses his coordinators wisely.

                              • Jerry was somewhat lucky he got McCarthy to bite instead of having a long drawn out process which kind of looked like might be in play because Garrett wasn't officially fired until Sunday, but everyone knew he was 100% gone as soon as the clock hit 0:00 against Washington. The worse thing would have been a number of high profile coaches saying no thanks to the job and Jerry having to deal with the fallout which would include his management methods. True that has been an issue since the end of the Johnson era, but with the lack of playoff success for years and numerous misfires since then both with coaches and players and the media onslaught would have been very brutal this time around.
