Wow! Why so many? Is the program rebuilding or is there considerable turnover in the program? Seems as if that would be half of the team.
Carthel used the same strategy at WT and Commerce.I have fat thumbs sorry for typos!

130 schools play Football in NM 37 of them play 6(25 schools) or 8(12schools) man football 6 man is below 100 students 8 man is below 150,
2A and 3A account for 37 schools as well 21 in 2a with 249 students or less and 16 teams in 3a with 549 students or less.
Between the botton 4 classes you have 72 of the 130 schools and students in these schools often have very little by the way of stats or film available for coaches to work on scouting well ahead.
Wyatt Strand is a kid from one of these schools(8 man) as was Seth Bailey 2A Brad Hardin 3A, among others and plenty that play backups and special teams.Last edited by Boohaha; 02-09-2020, 05:10 PM.I have fat thumbs sorry for typos!

That makes sense. With limited schollies at D2 you have to get creative and if you can get kids the academic money that frees up the limited sports schoolies available for those that don't qualify academically. Thanks for clarifying.I have fat thumbs sorry for typos!

Yep and it works when you have limited resources. NM produces good talent it's just not as easy to find because of the small school sizes in the state.

They offered a safety from Randall HS, but he signed with UNM. I believe they offered a couple others but the players worth signing in Amarillo end up going D1 and D1aa. The 2 kids from Lubbock Estacado were standouts on a really good team. I also think Canyon and Amarillo kids are more apt to choose elsewhere instead of staying home for WT.
Some of those same kids WT offered will end up transferring to walk on to the team. Happens every year.
