Quantity, with ALOT of in state kids, kids who they can get in state academic money for and use the limited athletic schollies on out of state kids.

Carthel used the same strategy at WT and Commerce.

Yep and it works when you have limited resources. NM produces good talent it's just not as easy to find because of the small school sizes in the state.

130 schools play Football in NM 37 of them play 6(25 schools) or 8(12schools) man football 6 man is below 100 students 8 man is below 150,

2A and 3A account for 37 schools as well 21 in 2a with 249 students or less and 16 teams in 3a with 549 students or less.

Between the botton 4 classes you have 72 of the 130 schools and students in these schools often have very little by the way of stats or film available for coaches to work on scouting well ahead.

Wyatt Strand is a kid from one of these schools(8 man) as was Seth Bailey 2A Brad Hardin 3A, among others and plenty that play backups and special teams.

That makes sense. With limited schollies at D2 you have to get creative and if you can get kids the academic money that frees up the limited sports schoolies available for those that don't qualify academically. Thanks for clarifying.

If you saw my second post it clarifies things further, nearly 60% of NM schools are under 250 students, many have good athletes but very little info available on them fof college coaches to look at.

Not being critical. It's called the law of large numbers. Works every time.

The 2 kids from Lubbock Estacado were standouts on a really good team. I also think Canyon and Amarillo kids are more apt to choose elsewhere instead of staying home for WT.
Spot on with this one !!

Some of those same kids WT offered will end up transferring to walk on to the team. Happens every year.
