Well this is interesting. He says in the article it is his decision and his alone, no pressure from within the athletic department.

Yes. That is a very tough transition time since they are ineligible for tournament play- how do you get top players to stay or come there?

Has it ever worked? When sonny-boy takes over for daddy? I can think of Joey Myer at DePaul, Pat Knight at some school down south of here and now Reissman.

One player at a time. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was able to do it during their transition, ACU building up to last year, and Merrimack College won their league their first year in D1 this year.

Good thing about the WAC is New Mexico State is the only decent team in that conference. All the other teams are D2 type competition but Grand Canyon has showed flashes here and there.

He has a son in elementary school. I made the same decision last year to step away from coaching and it was the best decision I have made. Spending more time with my kids is the best pay off.

I'd hate like hell to see it happen, but Tom Brown would be an outstanding choice for Tarleton. In 2 years they'd be competitive in the WAC. In 3 years competing for the championship. Maybe sooner. Just like he did at WT. They guy's a winner and a fine coach. And a hell of a recruiter. He and his staff have the knack for finding players that play above the average competition level.

Hate to see Chris go. He was just not his daddy. To reserved. Lon threw fantastic fits that got everyone's attention. Chris was nowhere near his league.

They would be competitive right away. Chicago State couldn't beat a high school team and Corpus Christi can beat Rio Grande with their weakest teams. It will be a few years before they could compete with New Mexico State but they could easily play them in the championship tournament games right away if they were eligible. It was a shame Merrimack college wasnt eligible after winning their conference championship the first year.

Simply put the WAC in basketball is like the GNAC in football. One decent team most years and the rest are terrible.

Instant name recognition. Major publicity. Very intriguing. I like it!

How in the h3ll is Chicago State still D1? The last two incoming freshman classes have both been under 200. Now with this COVID19 one should expect less than that for incoming freshman class this fall. I guess as long as Chicago politics and slush fund is there they will keep this facade going. Is the school motto will the last person here please turn out the lights before you go?

Yeah there are a few schools like that that rather be pummeled and say hey we are still D1 instead of going to D2 to be more competitive and save money. I remember Savannah State was that way in football (may still be) for years. We held Florida State to 65 points in the first half but we are still D1 boys!

A lot of it may be receiving money to be the whipping boys for the major schools whereas D2 you may not get that opportunity if you are strapped for cash.

I was curious as to why he was available. Maybe this is a reason

Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out?"
