  • WT vs Pittsburg State

I watched the game between Pitt State and SFA today. It ended with SFA winning, 26-7. However, it was a lot closer than the score.

It was only 13-7 at the half. PS took the kickoff in the second half, threw a pass, which was caught but SFA stripped it, recovering around the 20. Soon afterward, it was 20-7 early in the 3rd quarter. PS had some excellent drives, but were either picked off or ran out of downs. They also missed a Field Goal. The total offense difference was only about 50 yards between the 2 teams.

From what I could see PS has an excellent defense, and a well-balanced offense. WT will have to play their best game of the season to beat them.

Shades of 2005. The Gorillas are wearing their ugly yellow pants in Canyon again. They took the opening kickoff for a TD.

WT had a nice drive going but fumbled. PS picked it up and took it to the end zone. 14-0 with almost 12 minutes left in the first quarter.

So far the webcast is working fine.

Nice 90+ yard drive for WT, mainly on the ground. Gerber throws a 12 yard Td pass. 14-7 PS

Brandon Blair had a great run for a TD called back by a holding penalty. Gerber responded with a nice TD pass. 14-14.

Gerber is having an exceptional game!

PS takes the kickoff and easily moves 82 yards for a TD. Their line is amazing. 21-14 PS with 8 minutes left in the first half.

Both teams have very good long drives. WT fumbles on the PS 1. End of first half PS 28-21.

Hughes needs to figure something out defensively or it will be a long second half.

WT takes the kickoff, Gerber throws a pass that should have been picked, but it was dropped. On the next play he was picked. PS moves a little slower for the next TD. 35-21 PS

A couple of long runs, including 41 yards for a TD by Ugwu, PS leads 35-28.

PS throws a nice pass for a TD. The receiver just walks into the end zone.

                  No punts in this game.

                  42-28

WT has a nice drive but gets stopped repeatedly after getting to the PS 1. Really poor play calling. PS takes over at the 4, gets 17 yards on their first play.

WT played well at times, the turnovers were the killer. Congrats to PS for having an excellent team.

Was a fun game to watch, but both defenses need a ton of work. WT oline and RB are really good. Pitt oline looked good for the first time this season. That and the WRs catching balls instead of dropping them were the big improvements for Pitt this week.

It was a fun game to watch. Expectations are high in Buff Nation. However, it is a mystery as to why a coach who won an NC as a defensive coordinator can't seem to put a good D on the field. In all fairness, with the virus, you never know who will play. Most of us will want better results from our defense.

It is going to be hard to replicate the talent that Hughes had on the field in 2014, even with the recruits a program like WT can get. Darius Allen won the Gene Upshaw award twice and wound up not even being the best DE on that Pueblo team as Morgan Fox has found himself in the regular DL rotation with the LA Rams. DB CJ Roberts also was around the NFL a bit before heading up to Canada to play as well. Just a great combination of guys that had a lot of things go right for them that year.

                            I've had the same thoughts.

We still don't have a kicking game either, though extra points have become more likely.

Did anyone here go to the game or at least watch it online? Hughes was understandably not happy with a crowd of only 1500.

Hughes needs to find a couple big NG types inside to stop the run. An impact (or 2) edge guys who can put some pressure on the QB would be freaking good as well. I didn't see any personnel this year that filled those bills. Our D line is woefully undersized inside. Getting Tobias Harris back should shore up the secondary. Stop the run put pressure on the QB. Duh! The staff better hit the JUCO ranks pretty damn hard and recruit their butts off!!!

Our O will just get better and better. A long 6'2 WR with skill and 4.5 speed or better (without a criminal record - ha!) and a bowling ball RB like Angelo's Grear would be great adds to the offense wish list.

On the MiAA board, one of the posters called it a game of the defenseless. Neither team will get past the 1st round of the playoffs with either defense.
