Versus say winning the D2 national championship.

I am guessing that a blow-out from Kentucky is worth a heck of a lot more.
A team receives one unit for each tournament game played (including the First Four but not the National Championship). In 2018, each tournament unit was worth $273,000, an amount paid out to the team's CONFERENCE each year for the next six years. So a total of $1,638,000.

The NCAA owns the tournament rights and makes a killing. They share $ with the conferences, not the teams. What the conferences do is up to them...as We-Are-Lions stated.

So, ACU was awarded with being blown out and tore to shreds on national twitter accounts as well as other social media and monetary gain as to how the SLC configures. But, here is the bonus. BAD PR IS BETTER THAN NO PR.

No one expects 16 seeds to play a 1 close. And the check ACU received is likely a fraction of the economic benefit received by the school. There's a lot of panache that goes with getting to the big dance that is difficult to quantify.

All I know is ACU can't afford to pay for the amount of "free" advertising they received this weekend with both teams playing major college basketball powerhouses. If you are going to get beat in the 1st round, playing those two schools is the way to go. Lots of eyes on those games.

Who would have thought 2-3 weeks ago it would be Texas Tech vs UVA for the final?

I certainly wouldn't have called it. ACU losing to Kentucky was obvious.
