Does anyone remember the kicker from the Simon Fraser debacle? As far as I know she's the only girl to score against WT football.

That was Kristie Elliott. They didn't let her kick field goals in the WT game but kicked extra points.


Came across an article about one of the last Simon Fraser players still playing - he's a long snapper in the Big Ten now. From SFU to Bryant, then to Tulane, and finally to Wisconsin:

I think we will get a much better idea where WT is at and likely to go after their home game against Mines.

I'm sensing some optimism here! I hope you are right. If WT wins it will be in a high scoring shootout, with the defense missing many tackles.

I'm glad the new OC is working out. Now we only have buffoonery on one side of the ball, though I'm nervous about the field goal kicking. Sergio was the last good kicker we had.

No. Not at all. Surprisingly. I'm scheduled for an angioplasty next week. Doc says I've got scar tissue formed around a 2017 heart attack stint.

The passing game looked good and should get even better. I would like to see a consistent running game. I think the defense will continue to be a problem. Last season I mentioned the team looked like it practiced once a week. That's not the case this year.

The home side of the stadium looked inviting. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. Were you affected by the altitude?

No. Not at all. Surprisingly. I'm scheduled for an angioplasty next week. Doc says I've got scar tissue formed around a 2017 heart attack stint.

After 3 years they still don’t coach basic tackling. They have no chance to win championships. No chance. At best they finish 6-5.

If they lose the Mines game I will agree.

Did you look at the difference in rushing and see that Western had no choice but to throw it? Or the fact that Western was chasing the game the entire way? Did you watch the game to see their secondary get bullied? I watched several Western games, not sure why you're arguing based on a box score but it's very easy to see that their secondary was exposed by anyone that could give the QB a bit of time and had weapons to throw the ball to down the field.

I wouldn't say their playoff opponents exactly had explosive offenses to take advantage of this weakness, would you? Bemidji had 31 passing yards against Angelo the week before. Of course the Western secondary did better against them. Matchups matter.

No, I find up to 1 D2 game per week to be sufficient though sometimes I'll watch plaoff games. I'm really hoping to see Slippery Rock versus Kutztown though. What do you think of their secondaries?

I looked at those games. Yes they gave up a lot of yards but against Pueblo there was only a difference of 30 yards passing between the 2 teams.

Yeah, I'm well aware of how their season went. Their secondary was a huge weakness that was covered up by a front 7 and scheme that most teams didn't handle very well. Look at what Midwestern and Pueblo did to them through the air, Pueblo QB was 34/46 for 435 and 5 TDs.

WT receivers dropped 3 passes that could have made a big difference. One contested at the goal line. Another less contested inside the 5. And a third completely open that Martinez threw on the numbers to a back shoulder at the 5. Also he juuust overthrew a wide open post pattern that would have moved the chains from the 20 to the 20. I expect the offense to get better and better. They just need reps. Also 3 or 4 more transfers need to either get completely healthy or get up to speed with the scheme.

Western's Drew Nash was an experienced and talented QB. Every time WT had a play corralled it seemed like Nash had one more option and he found it. I thought the DL had some good push at times. After several years of stellar LB play, Buffs young LBs struggled at times.

Despite the loss we had a nice trip to Gunnison, Durango, and Santa Fe.

I'm hedging my bets by going to basketball practice in 30 minutes. Ha!
