One would have to be an absolute fool to turn down the opportunity and the money it comes with. To think it's not an upgrade is wild. Say he's there 3 years, that's experience at that level plus an extra $300k of income. Sounds like an easy choice.

On top of that, let’s say it doesn’t work and no renewal. That doesn’t mean he’s out of coaching… take the opportunity if it’s right for your family. Pretty simple.
