I went to practice today (after 7 yr old grandson's WT soccer camp). Saw the last hour of practice. Light years ahead of practices same time last year. The team looks like a real "football team" this year. They were in shoulder pads and shells. Full pads begin tomorrow. Returning starter Kannon Gibson and Kearney transfer Sean Johnson were getting more reps than the other QB's. One of the freshmen QB's (not sure who) nailed a couple mid-level passes in tight coverage, while running to his right. Impressive. Johnson looked good on several short passes. Man, give him an inch of daylight and he's gone. Slips thru a crack so so so quick. Several times the D had great coverage.

The mood of the practice was very business-like, determined, organized. None of that "new coaches, new players" trying to figure it out like this time last year. I'm going to go again tomorrow after soccer camp next door.

The entire OL returns. Some new big bodies on the DL. Several new cover guys. Better speed in the backfield. It felt (and looked) a lot better than last year.

Just looking over the roster, the place they didn't add a decent amount of experience is on the DL. A couple of transfers but they were not starters at their previous schools. Quite a few freshmen. Glad you thought there was some decent size on the DL after seeing them in person, I was surprised to not see more transfers.

Went to practice today. Still in shoulders and shells. I guess they put off full pads till next week. I forgot to ask Coach Lynn when he came over to greet me.

OL looked good in drills. Much more cohesive as a unit than this time in last year's early practices. Looks like they got bigger over offseason.

Preston Gregg was really popping the FG's. Made 6/6. 2/2 from 41. Good from 55+ with a little cross breeze behind him.

Kannon Gibson was running the 1's. Sean Johnson the 2's. Gibson is solid. Has a good grasp of the O (as he should have). Moved around in the pocket a couple times to open up a throwing lane for completions on 10 yard cuts over the middle. Nice moves. Johnson seems to have worked hard on his passing game. Looks more accurate since the spring game. Made several good throws. Damn......D's better respect his legs. He's lightning in open space. Got on the outside once today on a RPO and was down the sidelines and GONE! I like him!!! RB #5 was running with the 1's, quick and elusive. Didn't look that big, maybe 5'10 180. but fast. I'll ask who he is next week.

That's about it for today. 1st game 3 weeks from tonight. I'm considering making the trip to Alpine. Haven't been there since June '69 when they offered me on a baseball recruiting trip.

I just looked over the roster and was a little surprised to see McCoy-Gay not on the roster. He had over 100 yards rushing in 2 games, and looked very good in the first 4 games of the season. Also missing is Weston Eget who put up some nice passing numbers late in the season.

Yeah I just now saw that, what a bonehead.

I tried looking for McCoy-Gay in the transfer portal and other places and couldnt find anything.

Hopefully its just an oversight and he is still with the Buffs.
