I wanted WT to follow Central Oklahoma and Northeastern Ok to the MIAA, when LSC started to break up.

Fair. I want to follow-up on the $$$ subject re: moving to FCS. You stated that WT not moving up was a big mistake, and I was asking you where the $6-8 million would come from to move up. Where, specifically, would this money come from? $20 million seems to be the generally accepted minimum to be somewhat competitive. With increased scholarships, that number would likely rise another 10 percent, to $22 million. Where would WT find another $8-10 million a year to do that?

I see that Tremaine Jackson has been chosen D2 COTY. Didn't McB pass over him to choose Hughes?

Regardless of what was discussed in the year end meeting, it still raises questions about the WT football program when the STARTING QB, not the back ups, decides to transfer. It he really is looking for a better opportunity, what does that say about the WT program especially from a starter. Don’t get me wrong. I am WT fan and season ticket holder in multiple sports. I am just tired of a lousy FB program.

Same thing happened at Shepherd, their starting QB went off to Charleston Southern. I think the reality is that it doesn’t matter the role or amount of playing time, if they think there’s a better place for them, they’re gone.

I just heard that WT’s starting QB, Kanon Gibson, has entered the transfer portal along with 2-3 other Buffs. Whether you think Gibson was any good or not, it doesn’t look good for the FB program. You can’t chalk it up to lack of playing time.

And he signed to play at UTPB last week. Not a good look.

Yes, but not being able to sign him to a multi year contract as opposed to day to day may have also been an issue.

I'm sorry to lose a good QB. He will be within an hour drive from home, and will be playing for a proven coach. It sounds like a great deal for him.

Players are transferring for any of a variety of reasons - some good, some bad. I wouldn't necessarily see his transfer as any indictment of the WT program. Every school in college football has two or three dozen players coming and going.

The MIAA commissioner keeps talking about adding a bunch of teams and WT and Midwestern have been mentioned as targets. Also, a bunch of Okie schools (Baptist, Christian, Southern Naz) so a Southern Division could be formed.

Most of the Oklahoma D2 schools are in the GAC and happy to be there. It's a conference where everyone agrees to fewer scholarships than D2 allows. I don't see any joining UCO in the MIAA.

I don't see WT doing anything but the LSC unless the conference no longer has sufficient football-playing schools to have an automatic playoff qualifier.

Like WT_TKW mentioned, not offering him a multi year contract was 100% the issue.

I dont have concrete proof of it and I am not going to "out" my sources 10 years later, but Jackson and Hughes were pretty much even in the interview process.

Hughes was good with the year by year deal and Jackson was not.

To be fair Hughes on paper at the time looked like the more qualified candidate when he pitched a shutout in the 2014 national championship game as defensive coordinator and WT (LSC for that matter) wasnt known for their defense (still arent).

Agree with this statement.

Ask Northeastern State how it went going the MIAA route with fewer scholarships and the Oklahoma GAC teams already knew that.

I think the MIAA would be the "best" option as far as competition but the "worst" option as far as travel.

As weak as WT has been reduced to in football, the RMAC and GAC would make more sense if the LSC ever folded up their tent.

Looks like both Gibson and Henderson wanted to be closer to home probably for different reasons.

This may be harsh but so be it. Gibson was a good QB but not great,

With over 5,000 players (last time I checked or gave a damn) in the portal, WT can most certainly find a couple of QB's that are better than Gibson.
