Sergio will be kicking next week in the CFL championship game, the Grey Cup.

        • Sergio was 5/5 on field goals,1/1 on extra points, and had 2 CFL "singles" as Winnipeg won the Grey Cup in overtime 33-25 over Hamilton.

New LSC member CWU also has a former player with the Blue Bombers. Adam Bighill gets a Grey Cup win too. It is great to see two D2 players on the winning team.

              • The CFL's giant end zone would make midfield field goals impossible if they moved the goal post to the back like the NFL did.

And that the 55 yard line is the midfield stripe.

                  • IMO, this will be Hughes last season at WT unless he wins the LSC or at least makes the playoffs. He has been given ample time.

In another thread, someone mentioned the new Buffalo Stadium and "dwindling attendance", While attendance is not what Buffs fans would like, the football hasn't been that great either. Looking at other university websites for attendance figures, WT's is actually better than most D2s and many comparable D1s. And covid has not helped attendance anywhere, especially D2 and smaller D1s.

That being said, no one who has attended a game in new Buffalo Stadium would ever want to go back to Kimbrough. It's the best in D2 and better than many smaller D1s. Just hope the football improves to the quality of the facility.

Buffalo Stadium is certainly in the top 3 in D2 for sure.

When you speak of smaller D1's, I am assuming you are speaking of FCS (1aa)?

As far as WT football attendance, I agree. With C9VID everything is off. But, college football attendance has been on the decline at all levels. Even Alabama.

IMO, Hughes MUST win the LSC Championship. No more "or's"(i.e.win OR at least make the play-offs).

If WT wants a CHAMPIONSHIP level football program, they need a blue-chip, blockbuster coach (like a Colby Carthel). And that apparently is not Hughes.

WT should at minimum make the playoffs just because of attrition in the LSC (Tarleton, ACU, and Commerce since the last time WT made the playoffs). Central Washington will be a quality replacement for Commerce.

It will come down to going through the LSC with only one loss however thats not guaranteed (see Midwestern State last year).

                        • Here are some 2021 football attendance figures for 20 teams comprised of 5 LSC school and 15 FCS schools. Quite interesting when one usually thinks being D1 automatically means full stadiums. These numbers make you wonder how most of these FCS schools afford football, much less being D1. They also illustrate why WT has, so far, opted out of moving to D1. It's hard to justify, although I would like to see WT do it. But that would mean increases in ticker prices, donor contributions and student fees (if that is possible).
