Total agreement with you that Hughes should have been left in Canada that night without a thought and a list of candidates should have been thought of ready to go.

I don't think the delay would have brought a better coach to Canyon but guys jumping ship thinking Hughes was sticking around and a faster jump on recruiting would have definitely helped out.

Hopefully the transfer portal gets a workout short term and WT doesn't have a 3-8 transition type season.
I thought the team came out flat against ENMU. I was surprised because that was the last time a lot of them would play at home. I thought we would win that game until I saw how flat they were, I was almost sure they would lose to winless Simon Fraser because they had given up, and that is a long trip, plus they had to deal with the border and Canadian Customs, which I found exhausting in April of last year (MUCH worse than in previous years). Evidently the equipment managers gave up too and packed the home uniforms. I had no idea they had rules to deal with something like that!

Even I wouldn't have left Hughes in Canada. He was just not a good fit for the job. He's probably a decent guy.. However as soon as he got to Canyon he should have been notified.

I agree, the coach we got will be very good, and a safe hire for McBroom. Will we be back in the top 10 teams in D2 any time soon? Probably not, but the next time you write "if WT can run the table..." I will be MUCH more likely to buy it than during the Hughes era. I'm hoping for at least 7 wins this year.

That is excellent news. Bogardus is a great receiver. Maybe Lynn is going to pass more than run, but we still badly need a QB. Good luck getting one as good as Gerber.

I beg to differ about the QB situation. There are 2 QB's still on the roster. Both RS-F. Have you ever seen them play?

Joshua Caldwell, 6'3 210 from Canadian, Tx. QB for state 3A champion. 52 TD's his senior year. He can really spin the ball and is mobile as well. On target.
Kyle Brown, 6'0 200 from Cedar Park. District 25-6A MVP. 247Sports 3 star recruit. Central Tx POY. Passed for 6.386 yds and 71 Td's in 2 years. 1st team all-state.

I watched both of these guys in the spring game and a few times this fall in practice. Personally, I think both of them are more athletically gifted than Gerber. Stronger arms and just as mobile. If Lynn can keep both of them I look forward to a really good QB competition this spring. IMO either one could be an upgrade at QB. All they lack is Gerber's experience.

Sounds like Joshua Cadwell should be going to SFU.

No, I have not watched them play. I hope you are right. If Caleb isn't gone, he should be. Sadly it looks like Polivada IS gone, so we need a kicker.

Speaking of QBs from Canadian, check this out. Ben is movin' on up! To Nesbitt's credit he could see Ben was a very good QB. Hughes just made fun of him, but at least let him play a little when Houghtaling was hurt. He could have been great with a good coach.
