  • UDFAs and Camp Invites

If you hear of any LSC guys getting a camp invite or signing as a UDFA, post here.

Tanner Volk got a camp invite with the Seahawks! https://x.com/ChrisShanafelt/status/...nzVHgn2Zw&s=19

      Here's a good list:

      https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...r/83298427007/

Saw a few Lsc players foolishly posting graphics about them declaring for the draft, etc. So unrealistic. Conference USA only had 1 player drafter. The mountain West only had 6. Social media has made these athletes so delusional

Just a few schools who had NOBODY drafted this year:

          Mississippi State
          BYU
          Houston
          Duke
          Northwestern
          Wake Forest

The days of players playing D2 Football and getting drafter are over thanks to the transfer portal

100%!!! And any that get "mini-camp" invites have two chances of making the league. SLIM & NONE.

There where guys from 2015 and back that were some serious talent in D2 and that woukd be studs in today's FCS and smaller FBS world.

I would be happy with being on the practice squad as a long snapper or punter. Minimum salary there is 225K a year.

Practice squad players get $13k a week starting 2025. If you have 2+ years it's $16.6k a week and yhe max is $21.3k a wk.

NFL minimum for roster, I think, is now $840k a season.

About 60 players are invited to mini-camp, including UDFA signees. About 20 get invited to camp. And a couple might get signed.

Anyone getting a camp invite to their local NFL team is likely there as a body for camp. Mines QB last year received an invite to the Broncos, obviously he was never going to play in the NFL though.

Not to say it isn't a great experience for the athletes but it's typically not going beyond that stage.

Agreed but could get them some additional looks for USFL and CFL teams playing in pre season games and practice squad. Luis Perez from Commerce is still around and kicking (passing) for the Arlington Renegades.

                        Now UFL.

Dude needs to start building a career. He makes $64k gross. Plus $400 wk stipend for housing. This is all before taxes. He pays income tax on all of it. "Jock Tax" for each state they play in. And he has to pay agent and lawyer fees, plus UFPA union dues. However, they do get paid health insurance....minus standard deductibles, copays, out of pocket, etc.

Basically, it breaks down to about $30k a year. About the same take home as a FT Starbucks barista.

He will likely do what a lot of other players do in his situation. Get on a college coaching staff to work your way up or become a head high school football coach. I could be wrong and not sure what is major was.

I mean, he will be 31 years old this year. Nowadays that's almost old to start coaching, lol.

I think the issue is he was a poor student. Had to go JUCO route and didn't get any good offers because of his GPA. I know Angelo, WT, and TAMUK didn't recruit him for that reason.

I believe this is what kept him from having a serious shot as a NFL back-up/PS QB.

Not so sure he has a solid back-up plan.

I hope you are right and he makes a good career for himself.

If he received a degree that is worth something then it doesnt matter if he made a A+ or C- final GPA unless he is wanting to go to a doctorate program.

I have yet to have been asked my final GPA in 30+ years of job interviews and none of my dozens of college friends that have gone on to successful careers have either.
