Never got to go to the old UC-Davis field. I went to the new field in 2015. Kinda cool, but my visit wasn't during a game, so never got the football experience. Same with Humboldt, but it was a great stadium literally in the woods with the Pacific Ocean a stone's throw away from the campus. Of course, this is northern California, so not a sunny beach vibe, but very cool stadium experience.

The Humboldt area is one of the most beautiful in the world no doubt about it. Likely a long shot but if anyone ever finds themselves up there and has time for a hike, Skunk Cabbage Trail is incredible. Last time I was out that way my wife and I hiked it and in the eight hours we spent there we saw zero other humans.

Good to know, I get out to Northern California in the summers, some great places. I'll look for this trail, though I'll cut the 8-mile hike in half!

It is a there and back hike rather than a loop, not too difficult but of course can be a bit muddy in spots. The trail ends on a nice quiet beach where we had a picnic before turning around to head back. Hope you're able to make it one day!

It's California, there are shops all over. Humboldt State had (has technically) the most scenic football stadium in D2, I think. It's right in the middle of a bunch of redwood trees. It's a shame they killed the program.

Agree with all. Would just be perfect to have it at the start of the trail!

With the amount of bear poop we saw I'm glad I was completely sober for it lol.

I forget some places are still fighting the war on drugs.

The killing of D2 football on the West Coast was a bummer for many reasons. For me, I like taking in road trips, seeing the town, eating at a restaurant, walking on a campus I've never been on, checking out the facilities. I've been to Chico, Bellingham, Arcata, Burnaby, Hayward, and other places that once had D2 football. I saw these places in the off-season, not games at the universities. I think it would've cranked up prep football on the west coast, knowing there are more options. Really short-sighted to eliminate these programs.

Just saw on a facebook post SE LA curb stomped ETAMU 59-14 last weekend.

                        If this is improvement....
I only check in so often, and that is why I am catching up on tags. This is our first year of eligibility for postseason, and that is a big part of the transfer portal; guys want to know they get a shot to play in the games that get the most professional attention. As such, it's no surprise to me that this has been our best year. Our out of conference games get us paychecks and attention (SMU, FSU, & the SWAC) and a win this weekend gets us to .500 in conference.

SLU is a ranked team very alive for a at large playoff spot, and they whooped us. But, if we are .500 in conference in our first real year, and it takes a top 20 team to make us non-competitive I think that counts as trending up. We also have multiple wins over top 25 programs since reclassifying.

Lastly, we are getting real investment in facilities. We are on pace to be top 1/3 in NIL dollars available in conference right as our new events center opens up, and then we will be in a reasonable spot to make March Madness. On the football side specifically our budget continues to grow as SLC member schools either stagnate or contract.

Everyone has their own definition of improvement, but all of the above meets my personal criteria.

Might want to tap the breaks on trending up.

Getting your doors blown off by a team that is in their first year of existence 33-14 by unranked UTRGV isnt the best recruiting pitch.

To be fair, that unranked and first year in existence UTRGV team did pretty well . They were a 50 yard FG made by Lamar as time was expiring from possibly being in the FCS playoffs. They have some top notch facilities (maybe the best in the SLC) and a lot corporate support from regional, state and national sources. And it’s not just football as they came very close to making the CWS tourney field last spring in baseball. In fact they probably should’ve made the cut, but auto bids had to be given to teams who won their conference tourney’s who had losing records for crying out loud.

I continue I guess to be the canary in coal mine on this forum about the short and long term ramifications of a successful UTRGV program and the effects it will have on TAMUK. Manly because no one at the university has outlined a plan for the future and made a public pitch for the options that are ahead in this new era we are in with changing conference realignments, move ups, etc.
