  • For Those Interested - Lady Buff Basketball

The Lady Buffs were picked 4th in the coaches' preseason poll. They are currently sitting 1st with a conference record of 6-0 and an overall record of 14-1. The only loss came to the defending National Champion Grand Valley in the first games of the season. This is the best team Coach Prock has put on the court in his time at Wt. Wt's major advantage is depth. It is a 10-player rotation with no production drop-off. The team leader is Karley Motchsenbacher, the former LSC Defensive Player of the Year. Wt features a half-court pressure defense that leads to a fast-paced transition offense. Wt is averaging 78 points per game while allowing 57. This is a fun team to watch. They have significant upside and have not played their best basketball yet.

I believe they've also played one of the toughest schedules, in the top 5 or so. We'll see how they do Sat against a very tough St. Mary's team and this coming Thursday down at LCU. If they can win those two......

Regardless, whoever advances out of this region (Texas Women's, LCU, WT, Colo Mesa, ENMU, etc) should be playing GV for an NC.

WT also beat Arizona, who is currently 10-5.

Wt was up 18 points in the 3rd quarter of that game.

The Lady Buffs posted another victory bring their overall record to 15-1. (conference 7-0) St. Mary's was able to control the pace of the game in
the first half with Wt coming away with a 1-point advantage, 34-33. The Lady Buffs turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter and limited
St. Mary's to 5 points. (one FG) Wt's 3D offense, Drive, Draw, and Dish, is putting up an average of 78 points per game while the defense is allowing
an average of 57 per game.

Wt enters the most challenging part of its schedule with a road contest at LCU (6-1) on Thursday, followed by ENMU (7-0) on the road. Wt then has home games with UT Tyler (6-1) and Texas Woman's. (6-1) These games will have a significant impact on postseason seeding. The regular season title is still up for grabs.

The Lady Buffs posted another successful week with two victories, bringing their LSC record to 9-0. (17-1 Overall) Wt's win over LCU broke a 22-game
home winning streak by LCU. Balanced scoring has been the key to this team's success. Four players scored in double figures. West led the way with 15 points while Motschenbacher pulled in 14 rebounds. The second half was the best basketball the team has played this year. Lady Buff "D" held LCU to 21 points while the offence scored 40.

Saturday's 78-65 victory over Midwestern saw 13 Lady Buffs see the court with 5 scoring in double figures. Wt shot 48% from the field and grabbed 46 rebounds. The final outcome was never in doubt.

A challenging three-game streach face the Lady Buffs over the next 2 weeks. ENMU (8-1), UT Tyler (8-1), and #3Texas Women's (9-0). The key game appears to be the #3-ranked Texas Women's team. Wt will face them at home. Wt is currently playing at a high level.

LCU has the Texas Women's and UT Tyler section of their schedule.

The Lady Buffs came away with a hard-fought victory over ENMU (84-83) as Karley Motschenbacher stepped to the line with 0.5 seconds left on the clock
and made 2 free throws. The Lady Buffs had trailed by as much as 11 at one point in the game, and there had been 13 lead changes. A key point in the game occurred when the ENMU head coach was issued a technical foul and ejected. This resulted in a 6-point possession for the Lady Buffs. Free throws were
the difference in the game. Wt cashed in on 28 of 36, while ENMU converted 12 of 19. This leaves Wt. and Texas Women's locked in a tie for first in the LCS
with identical conference records of 10-0. Texas Women's visits Wt on January 31st. and ENMU on January 29th. TheTexas Woman's v. LCU game has been postponed. It's clear that Texas Women's has a very challenging part of their schedule left.

They've been dealing with some injuries. Starter Parlow was out for 3/4 games and leading scorer PG Fontaine Williams missed the Eastern game. I wouldn't count them out just yet.
