  • Off Topic: Texas High School Football Realignment

A lot of exciting news today with several former state champs and very good teams moving up divisions: Aledo, Celina, Randle, Iowa Colony, Hitchcock, Hamilton, Wall, Gunter, etc.

North Crowley, Duncanville, Lake Ridge, and Waxahachie in the same district??

What are some districts to watch the next couple of years?

With everyone going to the playoffs and half of those are state champs, does it even matter anymore?

Aledo might have a relatively easy district (6A-3) with five Arlington ISD schools, Granbury and Weatherford.

DeSoto dropped from 6A to 5A, which seemed to come out of nowhere.

Frisco Wakefield becomes the first of the Frisco ISD high schools (all 12 of them) to become a 6A school, with the rest of Frisco ISD in 5A (Frisco Panther Creek, which opened in fall 2022, had been phasing in each grade before going to full grade 9-12 capacity this school year and were a 4A school in the current cycle).

Prosper ISD's newest high school, Richland, is currently 5A, but I think they may join the other three Prosper ISD high schools as 6A in the next cycle.

I totally agree with this take.

I wish they would do away with subdivisions and just have a 1A-7A. All the big city schools on and inside the Texas Triangle can have their 7A D1 tryout camps.

Yeah I think they definitely did "ease" Aledo into 6A. The next cycle will likely be different.

The Desoto news definitely surprised me as I thought that community would thrive with the football success.

I heard a rumor someone screwed up and dropped the ball on the zoning around Frisco which allowed Wakeland to go over the 6A threshold.

It looks like the trend around Texas is to build new high schools to keep smaller communities from going 6A and the butt kickings in the later rounds of the playoffs.

Midland/Odessa as well as El Paso could benefit from that as they are the only 6A schools out in the middle of nowhere and have insane travel for non district games.

Frenship finally built a new high school to drop them back to 5A and travel inside Lubbock/Amarillo instead of Midland/Odessa.

The city I live in now in Montgomery did the same thing in 2018 to have two 5A schools and avoid the Houston 6A butt kickings.

Funny story: When I lived in Lockhart in the late 2010s, I warned the city leaders on facebook that Lockhart was going to have to make a decision soon on building a second high school to avoid all the 6A stuff since they were basically non competitive as it was in 5A and Austin peeps were moving there. I was called an idiot by one of them and blocked me on facebook. Fast forward to this week after the new updated numbers came out. Same council guy that name called and blocked me got on a different facebook page and "urged" the citizens to consider voting for a bond to alleviate overcrowding and build a second junior high and possibly high school. I had that same screen shot saved to this day and shared with under his comment. 😂
