Seen where Kanon is leaving the ACU program. Looks like they had quite a few qb’s looking for a job. I wonder if him and UTPB will reconcile. Would make a world of difference for them.

We'll see. The article quoted him as not having the love for the game anymore and he was hanging up the cleats.Originally posted by Rambunctious1 View PostSeen where Kanon is leaving the ACU program. Looks like the portal claimed another one. I saw him play at Western Oregon last year and he was sensational, rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for two more. Threw for 350 yards and rushed for 84 yards. The guy was just dynamic. Sometimes where you're at is a good place to be.

Yes, an NCAA football player can transfer multiple times and maintain immediate eligibility, provided they meet academic progress requirements and enter the NCAA Transfer Portal during official open wind9w periods.Originally posted by AngeloFan View PostCan he transfer to ACU and then transfer again in the same season, I was thinking that a transfer was a one and done for the season.

I may date myself a little here, but I’m hoping someone would put their arms around this young man and share some insights. I started out in the late 70’s with Sul Ross on some bad promises. I was greatly disappointed at the head coach after showing up at camp. I was on the dummy squad until my Dad showed up to practice one day, I heard the coach saying, who is that? , they said the parent sign up sheet said “ so in so”. Coach says “put so and so in at running back “ and says the play loud enough for the D to hear. I know the game and charge for the called play then veer to the outside for a TD and my Dad cheers not knowing. I had 2 TDs straight before getting stopped, and my Dad told me,” Good going “ not ever knowing that it was a setup. The basketball coach at SRSU at the time, who knew he was to be tabbed the AD knew what was going on and came to me personally and said “hang on” . I left the program anyway angry in 78. In 81 and 82 Sul Ross had their greatest successes. After a stint at Wayland University, I ended up at ASU playing some spring ball and had Jim Hess share a heart to heart with me in 1981 on my off site job which I appreciate to this day. Bottom line is, these kids, and me still sometimes, needs someone to come along side for help. And I it is not always Dad or Mom. I hope the best for Kanon.Originally posted by tsull View PostLooks like the portal claimed another one. Great post. College sports is tough. I ran cross country and it was very grueling training out on the remote country roads of Oregon, I'm sure my experience was not much different than most collegiate runners.Originally posted by Rambunctious1 View Post

We had a new coach every year, it's a low paying sport so they're not going to get great candidates. We had one really good grad assistant one year and a couple other guys who knew the sport, but didn't know how to connect with people at all.
Most student athletes and students in general are away from home for the first time. It can get lonely and isolating. Some encouragement from professors, coaches, staff members, is always needed. Great post Rambunctious.
