No, as long as you have an invitation from a conference you can move up.

    Cal Baptist.
    UC-San Diego.
    LIU-Post (merging programs with LIU-Brooklyn)
    Merrimack.
    North Alabama.

and the most famous move up to FBS- without a conference invite so they will be an independent- Liberty. NCAA is afraid of a lawsuit.

Not pertaining to Augustana, but Metro State has recieved an invite from the WAC and are looking to go D1.

That's a pretty solid fit. Do the Roadrunners offer football? I don't seem to remember if they do. I do remember they had a pretty high scoring basketball program in the early 2010's and iirc they have a decent soccer team?

          That's interesting, indeed.

No football. I don't see this ever happening. Metro State was likely only contacted because the WAC offices are in Denver.

I agree with Tech Boys. With the financial issues at Chicago State, the possibility of UMKC heading back to the Summit, and the fact that Grand Canyon and NMSU would rather be anywhere else, it sounds like the WAC is in desperation mode and is just throwing out feelers to anyone they can.

They are in desperation mode. The only way I can see the WAC stabilizing the conference is to create a separate football conference like the MVFC. Make sure the D2 invites are geographically somewhat close and have a history playing one another. You only need 6 for an automatic bid into FCS playoffs.

No football. Commuter school. No big crowds for basketball. IMO this is not a good invitation to make. But the WAC seems to be dissolving.

Any chance Augustana is looking at the WAC?

Dixie State is exploring D1 with WAC football as an option.

The football option could land Tarleton State. UTRGV is also planning an FCS program.

I doubt it. Travel wise it would be insane. The Summit is an I-29 league. Augie would bring in baseball. I just don't see scholarship football there either. 6500 seat stadium wouldn't make for very big crowds.

If they filled it they'd be 9th out of 11 teams. When UND is added I'd assume 10th out of 12. But I dont know attendance is a make or break. I'm sure the conference would just like to have Sioux Falls as part of their true market.

Personally, I don't think it's the right move for them. For their sake I hope I'm wrong and it works out.

It will be a bummer losing our biggest rival that's only two blocks away. Hopefully we'll be able to schedule some non-conference games.
