Another thing with Minot, they were generally one of the better teams in the NAIA Dakota Athletic Conference, but on a whole that conference was probably the weakest in all of NAIA. The DAC disbanded leaving Minot with the choice to be NAIA independent, or transition to D2 and join the NSIC.
Given their location, I can only imagine it would have been brutal trying to fill an independent NAIA schedule. Therefore they pretty much were forced to jump to D2 even though they probably weren't quite ready as a program to make that move.
