  • What was your team's record when you were in college?

Figured i'd do this after seeing the past decade thread posted here. How did your team do while you were attending college? Technically, I was at MSUM from 2009-2012, because I was getting my AA at Rainy River Community College (now Minnesota North College-Rainy River), but I was "committed" to Moorhead if that makes sense. So, I was following the Dragons starting in 2007.

During that whole period, the Dragons went 12-43
    2007, 4-7
    2008, 2-9
    2009, 2-9
    2010, 2-9
    2011, 2-9

Obviously, zero post season berths. The Dragons now play for two rivalry trophies against Bemidji State and Mary. They went a combined 1-9 in these games. The past decade since graduating has been much better. Seriously, even getting the berth in the Mineral Water Bowl was a huge moment as an alum.

    Neat topic idea.

    SMSU -

There's a few more than 4 seasons here - I started at SMSU in the Fall of 2012 as a PT student. Finished my AA in the Fall of 2016. Took a semester off, and came back in the Fall of 2017 as a FT student.

    2012: 4-7
    2013: 7-5
    2014: 3-8
    2015: 8-3
    2016: 5-6
    2017: 2-9
    2018: 4-7

That totals 33-45. In that time, SMSU made the MWB (2013), had their best D2 season (2015), and beat their first ranked opponent (2016). That stretch was fun. After that? Not so much. Saw quite a few NFL players from the conference, though only one is from SMSU (though he transferred to SDSU).

    Minnesota State-

I started at MSU in the Spring of 2019, (while still at SMSU, oddly enough - that was an experience). I took classes through the Fall of 2021, and am taking a break for the time being. More of a hobby/side project than anything. Though I was distance learning, I still did as much as I could on campus when I was able too, which was kinda fun.

    2019: 14-1
    2020: No Season
    2021: 6-5

20-6. Obviously, the Mavs made it to the National Championship in 2019.

Looking back, this is actually a little better than I remember, which is still bad. I was "blessed" to be at NSU for most of the Boden era which ended with NSU only really being able to beat Crookston.

      2004: 6-5 (Heupel's last year)
      2005: 6-5
      2006: 4-7
      2007: 5-6
      2008: 1-10

      Total: 22-33

Boden's last year was a 2-9 season in 2009. Dosch's first season in 2010 was also 2-9 before he reeled of consistent 5 and 6 win seasons.

Same, except you can add that wonderful 2009 season on to my resume as well. Now do baseball, haha

Not a NSIC guy, but love the topic idea.
My wife and I both went to Carson-Newman. We actually played Winona while I was a student AT Winona.

2007: 10-1 and robbed of a playoff spot. I'm still bitter. Finished ranked 14th in the country and missed the playoffs due to old EA rules.
          2008: 7-4
2009: 11-3 and national semifinalist. I still believe if we played Grand Valley in Jefferson City instead of Michigan we win that game.
          2010: 7-4

          TOTAL: 35-12.

I attended USF from fall of 1987 to spring of 2001 (Yes, you read that right. I'm a slow learner.)

            1987: 3-7
            1988: 9-1-1
            1989: 7-2-1
            1990: 6-4
            1991: 5-5
            1992: 5-5
            1993: 2-8
            1994: 8-3
            1995: 11-1
            1996: 14-0 (National Championship)
            1997: 11-2
            1998: 8-3
            1999: 6-3
            2000: 6-4

            Total: 101-48-2

That took some digging. They were in three different conferences during that time period.

That 1996 season must have been a blast.

I went to Lake Superior State University. Our motto was "LSSU Football, undefeated since 1946"

Our hockey team was pretty solid back then though.

Bemidji State, 1990-1996 (yep, six year plan, LOL!)

                  1990: 1-10 (Huron Univ)
                  1991: 2-7 (Mayville, Morris)
                  1992: 2-8 (Moorhead, Morris)
                  1993: 0-10
                  1994: 1-8 (Morris)
1995: 3-7 (Winona, Morris, Northern for a three game win streak)
                  Total: 9-50 0.153

The running joke when I was at Bemidji was who would get their only win of the year, Morris or Bemidji. Those Kris Diaz years were painful to watch.

I went to a WIAC school from 2004-2008. They went 3-7 each year. Forgot that they played some NSIC schools in that time frame. I think I saw Bemidi and Concordia St. Paul on the schedule. Winona State went 10-2, 8-3, 9-3, 10-2, & 6-5 in that same period with 3 playoff berths.

Good idea for a post to lead us into the season. Especially because winning can certainly be a strong factor for fan engagement and loyalty. D2 fandom is its own can of worms we've discussed on here before but sucess most of the time should encourage student attendance and hopefully breed loyalty. I think of my Gopher brother in-law who takes cynical Minnesota fan to a new level after being at the U during the Brewster years. Or any of the Vandy alums I came across in Nashville who didn't care about football "beacuse we suck" or were actually quite critical of the program after experiencing the highs of the James Franklin years. As for me...

Player at USF from 2009-2013 so I got the full experience. Two years of NAIA, the dreaded transition year, and two years in the NSIC.

2009: 15-0 (NAIA National Champs. D1 win at UND. Deboer leaves after the season and begins his climb to UW)
2010: 13-1 (NAIA National Runners-Up. Ugh. This one hurts.)
2011: 5-4 (NCAA provisional year. Weird season. Played Minot twice. Played at D1 McNesse State and UND, and shoulda beat the F'in Hawks again)
2012: 9-2 (First season in the NSIC. Missed PAT at Winnoa still haunts me. Woulda been MWB or in the PO mix in year 1.)
2013: 6-5 (A competent DC would got us a MWB in year 2 with just one more W. Some tough losses we took this season.)
                      Total: 48-12

For fun, my time at Vandy as well... I chuckle because I got more seasons of football while I got my PhD at Vanderbilt than I did as a player at USF.

                      2016: 6-7
                      2017: 5-7
                      2018: 6-7
                      2019: 3-9
                      2020: 0-9
                      2021: 2-10
                      Total: 22-49
                      4x 'Crackerjack' NAIA National Champions - 1996, 2006, 2008, 2009

Tundra will have to correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure they only had like 2-3 home games all season!? And that was before the Bob so home games were at Howard Wood and maybe McEneany.

I don't remember how many home games they had that particular season, but all the home games during my 14 years of school were played at Howard Wood. McEneany field was only for about three years prior to the Bob opening in 2006.
