Should Jamestown be accepted into the NSIC?

There's a set of programs that have taken a "step down" after Crookston dropped football. Some benefited and some were hurt by playing UMC. Northern Division teams can't bank on at least one win anymore.

UIU benefited from them every other year. Now I suspect some teams are missing the near lock of beating UIU.

I think you're trying to make a correlation that isn't there. A lot has changed in the world since 2019. You can't blame it all on Crookston. Heck, Wayne State was a 4-7 program in 2019 and Concordia was 6-5...

The correlation that UMC was a garbage program, and then UIU inherited that claim? Allowing some squads to feel better about themselves for beating someone? I think that's very relevant with a doormat NAIA program asking to be brought into the fold.

I'm wondering- St Thomas wanted to get booted so they could move to D1 faster. Is UJ wishing the same thing?

I think the GPAC got tired of Jamestown flirting with the NSIC....and the GPAC picked up Waldorf and told the Jimmies to don't let the door hit ya where God split ya. (The GPAC was tired of playing the waiting game with them as they watched this process unfold with a conference member....a member that needed the GPAC a lot more than the GPAC needed them, given the proximity to the rest of that league)

I heard from the NSIC meeting a few weeks ago that UJ is still under consideration..but nothing more. For Jamestown's sake, I hope they didn't jump without a net.

What a situation we have here. Sounds like a sink or swim scenario or a cart before the horse however you put it. If the 50% athlete number is true this could sink them. I can't see the NSIC ever sponsoring hockey but it puts schools with hockey programs in a unique position. Mary was just ranked #23 in ACHA Division 1. They have also started recruiting throughout Canada. Minot, Moorehead and Jamestown have invested a lot in their hockey programs and draw big crowds at the end of the day there is no NCAA affiliation and some may say it takes away from other sports. My instincts tell me Jamestown gets rejected. Nothing against them as a program but its more of a move made in desperation.

A quick question as you know more than me nationally, but in other conferences have there ever been programs with a reputation that Crookston had? Ex. do not belong, horrible facilities, no attempt to improve. Lonestar? GLIAC? Or is Crookston truly one of a kind to the point that when new members attempt to join Crookston memories arise.

So now UJ is about to become an orphan without a home unless the NSIC adopts them. Debergfan and Purple Mav Man bring up great points. Jamestown enrollment is very dependent on it's cadre of sporting endeavors. To compete in D2 they're going to have to raise scholarship numbers and cut some peripheral sports thus effecting enrollment. A double edged sword for a small private school. If I had a vote it would be a solid no.

I think they can probably keep hockey. If three other NSICs can get by with it I don't know why they couldn't.

I don't know much about ACHA hockey but I don't think they'd be affected at all by NCAA sports, would they?

ACHA is kind of the wild west of college hockey, and just isn't really on my radar.

1. What will men's soccer do? will they join the GLIAC for soccer?

3. Will enrollment continue to grow when you don't have any championships to compete for

There are ACHA programs out there that are funded by their athletic department and offer scholarships, and then there are programs out there where it is basically pay to play. If the athletic department is funding them at all, would those dollars end up going to the NCAA startup?

That is true - some ACHA programs are technically varsity. Minot *might* be one of them if I am correct, but I know at some bigger schools like Mizzou they are definitely varsity.

Not sure how that works, it probably falls under Title IX if the school is funding it so I could see them getting the axe in that regard - but I doubt UJ is funding the hockey program.
