  • Bad news guys - Jamestown does NOT have a Wendy's. The closest location is on 18th Avenue in Far-Go, North Dakota, which is approximately 91.0 miles from Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium in Jamestown, North Dakota.

This means your average Jimmy must "Go Far, to Far Go" for a JBC and a chocolate Frosty. Jamestown becomes the only NSIC town in North Dakota to not have access.

As a man of the people, this highlights a deeper issue that I've been trying to discuss with conference leadership - with only Northern, Mary, Minot, MSU, CSP, UMD, USF, AU, and MSUM (*via Far-Go) having access, what does that mean for the rest of the conference? Seems like it would be a hit to recruiting for just about every other team except Wayne.

Concerned citizens in Bemidji did start a petition in 2021 that fell short of their goal of 75 signatures:

    Petition · Build a Wendy’s in Bemidji Minnesota - United States · Change.org

Someone needs to pony up the cash and buy into the franchise!!! Who wouldn't want to get a Frosty in Burrrrrrmidji?

"To open a Wendy's franchise, prospective owners need a minimum net worth of $1,000,000 and liquid assets of at least $500,000. The initial investment ranges from $2,000,000 to $3,500,000, including a $40,000 franchise fee."

I always get a kick out of some of the Facebook posts about Alexandria needing this, that and whatever restaurant. What these locals don't realize is that a lot of these franchises have population requirements and the franchisee also has to have a lot of skin in the game. I believe it was Texas Roadhouse that came up just a couple of weeks ago.

The initial investment for a Texas Roadhouse franchise can range from $3.89 million to $7.9 million. This includes the franchise fee, real estate, construction, equipment, and initial inventory. You'll also need to factor in ongoing fees, such as royalties and advertising fees. Texas Roadhouse also has population requirements in the 40,000-60,000 range (Alexandria's micropolitan population size is a little over 40,000, I believe).

Mankato does need a Texas Roadhouse. And any decent size city in the Midwest could use a Culvers.

In-N-Out was gas station food compared to Culvers

Yep, some of these people just think restaurants just appear out of thin air.

Those Facebook posts are awesome - we had one in Brookings a couple weeks ago where the guy proceeded to absolutely trash every local spot collectively in town, then offered a "solution" of bringing in the most bland, casual sit-down chains one could imagine. It caused quite the Facebook kerfluffle amongst the locals. Ironically, Brookings has a Wendy's now - so there's no reason to complain about options.

Bemidji surprised me. Winona also surprised me. Those seem like prime Wendy's real estate opportunities. Someone should get on that.

Nisswa might very well be the smallest town with a Wendy's franchise in the United States - and has to be the only one with a log cabin silhouette to the architecture. Gives it an ambiance that's tough to beat. But it's Nisswa - half the town used to play in the NHL, half of them are business moguls from Brainerd. Makes sense why they'd have a bougie Wendy's.

                        • I go to Culvers when I want a burger with McDonald's flavor but also have the need to spend twice the money. I used to get a discount there in college through my employer - and it was right next door. I went 2 or 3 times.

Jamestown does have a Quiznos. That explains a lot about all of this. Remember those awful mascots they had?

And my personal favorite, also a California original going back even farther to 1946. Fosters Freeze has 96 locations all within the Golden State with no plans to cross the state line. I like that approach. If I had the money I'd buy a franchise.

We're a Zesto's community - though they are kind all over the place in a way.

I went to MSU's spring scrimmage against NSU in Tea, SD. No concessions, so I left at the half to have me a footlong down at the B&G Milkyway - a Sioux Falls staple(?). Made it back to see the fourth.

In Alexandria, it is always Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Applebee's (Fergus has one), Chick-Fil-A, and believe it or not, Long John Silvers. Raising Canes comes up when Chick-Fil-A gets mentioned. It feels like I am missing one or two others, but basically think St. Cloud lite, even right down to wanting Costco and Sam's Club.

Hell, we can't even get a Kwik Trip into town. They bought a lot, tore the building down on it (I think), got the city permits, and now decided the lot won't work (it butts up against swampland that is near impossible to touch). But hey, we do have four Subways, three Holidays and three Casey's and two Dairy Queens. And we had two El Loros, but they shut one of them down.
