In relevant news I did some homework and calculated the NSIC All Sports Award standings through Winter sports.

I thought it would be interesting to see where Jamestown sits in the "True" standings but also to see how they line up if you compare efficiency.
I measured this by taking the amount of points earned divided by the amount of points possible, this sort of levels the playing field for schools who don't sponsor the full 18 NSIC Sponsored sports.

The findings are about what we expected if not worse.
School Fall (M) Fall (W) Winter (M) Winter (W) Men Total pts Women Total pts Total Pts Pts Standing Max Pts Possible Efficiency Eff. Standings
    Augustana 28 31 35 22 63 53 116 2 167 69.5% 2
    Bemidji State 6 25.5 3 7 9 32.5 41.5 15 117 35.5% 12
    Concordia - St. Paul 10 30 17.5 27.5 27.5 57.5 85 5 155 54.8% 6

Games start tomorrow. Some of those A games will be clunkers but I have a feeling Edina vs Anoka should be a good one.

Taking a look at how the coaches' vote compares to the mathematical rankings (QRF, PageStat). Some conflicts, I guess.

    Class A, first round Wednesday
    #1 Hibbing (138.1, 20.73)
    #2 Delano (110.1, 19.44)
    #3 Warroad (115.3, 20.34)
    #4 Mahtomedi (110.0, 19.27)
    #5 Cathedral (88.2, 17.55)
    #6 Northern Lakes (91.4, 17.11)
    #7 Mankato West (92.8, 16.98)
    #8 Dodge County (88.0, 16.09)

    Class AA, first round Thursday
    #1 Minnetonka (160.2, 23.04)
    #2 Moorhead (159.2, 22.77)
    #3 Edina (149.4, 21.89)
    #4 Rosemount (143.0, 21.71)
    #5 Grand Rapids (104.1, 20.04)
    #6 Andover (99.2, 19.10)
    #7 Lakeville South (105.6, 19.72)
    #8 Genrtry Academy (106.5, 19.65)

Also of note. For the Quarterfinals, Hibbing will be without the player that scored the OT goal, and Rosemount will be without their starting goalie due to them flipping off the opponent's fans after their wins. Suspended for one game each. Opps.......

Jamestown has a solid Hockey team. I saw them play Waldorf in Albert Lea.

Lots of big strong fast Canadians.
Same with Minot State. Plus, Minot has Pepsi Arena at the MAYSA Complex, that place is pretty sweet. Has to be a draw compared to some rinks club teams play in. I would venture to guess the locker room for the Beavers is on par with the rink, as I would guess the Minotauros of the NAHL have a decent room.

I felt bad for Stillwater last year, no reason to dislike them but everyone in the state was pulling for Moorhead in the title game.

About the only problem I have is Delano getting #2. Warroad had the head to head win over Delano. Mahtomedi had a stronger strength of schedule than Delano. It seems like when it comes to State seeding by the coaches, head to head always seemed to take precident.
solid Class A field Cathedral as a 5 seed and Warroad as a 3 seed shows some depth

    BSU takes UST to OT.

    Mavs beat NMU.

As such - MSU is the MacNaughton Cup champion. What a wild weekend.

Well, the last night of CCHA play is upon us. What we know heading in:

    1-5 are undecided
    6 is Bemidji
    7 is Lake Superior
    8 is Ferris
    9 is Northern Michigan

I read somewhere that there are 17 different ways 1-5 can play out, something like 216 different tie breaker scenerios that could come into play.
BGSU knocks Tech off in OT - no McNasty Cup for either.

BSU leads UST 2-1 heading into the third

MSU leads NMU 1-0 in the third.

Augie, MSU, and UST still in the hunt.
