  • Funny thing is - Rutgers (and Maryland) still had to be vetted to some degree to join the Big10, unlike Jamestown and the NSIC.

Obviously, it was still a bad move in a competitive sense, but at least the Big10 wasn't handing out invites to random schools.

    • The bloated 18 team big 10 is so greedy with schools from coast to coast. They are trying to manipulate the playoffs for their financial benefit of course. I rue the day the venerable PAC 12 broke up. The sec is no better like the big, whispering into the ear's revenue better over here.

      • The Big Ten's recent expansion was all media driven I think. The earlier expansions, picking up Penn State and Nebraska, were more about quality I think, considering they are both high profile programs, and Pennsylvania and Nebraska are at least Midwest/Big Ten adjacent. Stretching to the coasts, though, was extending the media map.

The Big Ten now has 4 of the top 5 media markets, and 11 of the top 25.
No. 1 New York City - Rutgers
No. 2 Los Angeles - USC, UCLA
No. 3 Chicago - Illinois, Northwestern
No. 5 Philadelphia - Penn State
No. 8 Washington DC - Maryland
        No. 13 Seattle - Washington
No. 14 Detroit - Michigan, Michigan State
No. 16 Twin Cities - Minnesota
No. 19 Cleveland - Ohio State
        No. 23 Portland - Oregon
No. 25 Indianapolis - Indiana, Purdue

At the NSIC level, it feels like things just came down to timing and needs. Jamestown wanted to go D2, Upper Iowa was leaving, NSIC would want a school to replace them, seems like things just rolled out from there.

        • Traded one private school bad at athletics for another one. Jamestown gets the nod as a city over Fayettnam.

I like Minot quite a bit. Mankato is too big though.

Funny how different we are. I like Mankato for the people and nature stuff - but it's tiny, I think it's only like 50,000 proper or something. Sioux Falls is my kind of small town. Small enough to where I can get around easy, but big enough to have a few things to do whenever I want.

I stepped off the train once in Minot, that's my only experience there. Don't have an opinion on it, but they do have a nice university and junior hockey which is a lot more than many places do.

Athletically speaking, I think most of us would rather have UIU over UJ. Shoot - I'd rather have them over Crookston.

Not knowing about the AAU requirement is unreal. That's Day 1 material.

I'm not going to lower myself to your level and call you an "embarrassment to the Mustang name" or anything childish like that - but you've spent the past two years grifting on behalf of another school to the detrement of the institution you're representing on this board.

If you have a problem with something I've said - you can DM me about it. Or prance around like a child and quote other people, I guess.

Just hope your black and orange pom poms are dusted off for the big SMSU game.

                          • I know, I really need to just drop it. It's just annoying to see some here continually making up stuff and trying to pass them as facts.

The NCAA has a multi-year process to grant Division II membership. The NCAA has ruled that UJ is qualified to be a Division II member, but that's not good enough for some people.

I have no expectations of UJ being a championship contender on Day 1. For some, it seems like that's a requirement in order to approve NSIC membership. But that has zero bearing in the discussion of what qualifies an institution for NSIC membership.

I don't have anything against you personally, but I'm not letting you off the hook. You've been acting like a petulant child, calling me names and following me around the board for the past few days. You got upset when I complimented Jack Strand and threw a hissy fit when I named a thread in a way you didn't like. It's insane behavior for someone who is apparently older than me.

A school has to be in the AAU to join the Big10. I'm not "making it up." I was just pointing out how your analogy was broken. Feel free to prove me wrong. You can't, but try anyway.

I don't care that we both went to SMSU. You don't speak for me and I don't have to agree with you. You're also not the gatekeeper for the alumni or the "Mustang name."

You dug yourself a hole - the only "winnable" game UJ has is SMSU. Either SMSU wins and UJ goes 0-11, and you admit you're wrong about how "good" they are - or UJ wins and you get what you so desperately want want at the expense of the school you so dearly love, supposedly.

You and the other poster can enjoy your team thread without me - maybe you can tell him about how Marshall has "cultural issues," y'know, like what you said in your post before you edited it out?

Here's the psychotic thing about all of this - he won. UJ is in the NSIC. He got what he wanted.

He could just sit back and enjoy his victory - but he has to white knight for the Jimmies as if they need their honor defended. Can't stop until we all agree with him, apparently.

This thread was an absolute trip, but the "debate" reached a logical conclusion.

Now we all sit back and watch Augie hang 100 on this joke of a team. Hopefully it serves as a nice therapy session.
