100%. St. Thomas WANTED to get kicked out of the MIAC so they could avoid the waiting period of D2 altogether so they could move to D1. It was quite a trick. I'm surprised more people didn't see through it.

I've heard that plan/idea floated around. Not sure if it has any merit or if its people dreaming but I personally wouldn't be surprised if they go that route down the road.

I can go back to the 1980s when Sid Hartman kept saying in his column that UST would change their name to the University of St Paul for better recognition and go D1. It seemed funny at the time. But yes, I have heard about them wanting to get into the MVC and then on to the Big East. Well, at least they are in D1, they will be moving up to a big name hockey conference and their new arena will be ready in a few weeks. You never know. They do have the money.

I've heard it from UST fans that it's "the plan" - but I can tell if they're just saying it due to inflated egos or if it's an actual goal.
