Should Jamestown be accepted into the NSIC?

These food posts will come in clutch this winter…our daughter is playing club volleyball and two of the tournaments are right in NSIC territory! Fargo/Moorhead and Sioux Falls! I hope we can get to Boss’s for a meal.

i really liked the Danger Avon Dempsey place in Aberdeen, but understand it has since closed. The one in Brookings was good, but the Aberdeen one was better

in Moorhead I recommend Mick's Office for a dive bar and a burger.

for a meal I would recommend Midtown Tavern -- good variety on meu and good pizza too.

Fargo has 2 dozen great places so won't list them all.

Never got to experience it unfortunately - I remember going down to Pipestone for a work thing one day, then hoping to stop. This was maybe five years ago. They weren't open at that time, not sure if it was permanent or just reduced hours. But I have a friend in SD that said he and his friends would run over there all the time in HS because it was open 24/7.

There is a Boss' in downtown Fargo, my wife, son and I ate there one night while my son was in town for a Fargo Force eval. It was good pizza.

That's good information! We make it to Fargo more than the other spots, but having recommendations all over helps. With all of our travels, we try our best to not hit corporate chains, or at least the really big ones (Green Mill being an example of a smaller chain).

Using maps and reading reviews has brought us to some wild, but amazing places along the road!

Boss's makes a sold pie in my experience - though I have heard there can be a lot of variation from place to place. The one in Brookings didn't last very long.

Kind of appreciate how late they're open - lot of places close up before I'm done with whatever I'm doing. The original one has a pinball arcade attached, too!

I agree, Google Maps has been awesome for finding spots off the beaten path to eat, especially for "safety meetings" before hockey and baseball games. I am always a sucker for some little bar/supper club on the back roads that we travel.

I didn't know there was one in Fargo until walking by the ice machine on our hotel floor. Sitting by the trash can were some Boss' pizza boxes and I talked the family into hitting them up, of course recognizing the name from the NSIC Show.

Football seemed to get better as the season went on. They didnt win but there were many games that were not blowouts and against good teams. I also noticed they were scoring points and the offense seemed improved FWIW

I took a look at Jimmy Volleyball - NSIC had them ranked #11 in the preseason, they finished #12.

Of note - UJ went 5-15 with 11 shutout losses and an additional three losses with a 3-1 score. They achieved two sets off of ranked/RV teams (MSU and SMSU). In the W column, they achieved one shutout (against UMC) and two 3-1 victories (Minot/Mary). Their biggest win was a 3-2 win over a struggling Augustana squad in the last game of the year.

Not much to say there - the bar was low and they managed to squeak right under it.

I don't remember what my original prediction was (or if I even gave one fully) - but I remember thinking they'd snag a 3-2 upset off of a better team, but that honor went to Bemidji this year.

I still think volleyball is the biggest upside UJ has - but it's going to be a long road to fully realize it, if they even want too at this point.

Different programs have different aspiration, that has been exactly my point since the very beginning.

It feels like most outsiders have been judging Jamestown on championship likelihood, and since they are so far away from building contenders in any program, they are viewed as being unworthy of the lofty Division II and Northern Sun member status.

Since that's the line we are judging on, the NSIC should be a three-program league and the rest of the current members should be banished to Division III or the NAIA. That's the consensus I've been pushing back against. It's silly and nonsensical.

You’re right though, it is silly and non-sensical to push back like that because absolutely nobody is calling for a 3-team league. Many have stated they do not think Jamestown will be competitive (meaning actual wins, not just keeping some games close - vastly different). I’m in the camp that thinks the NSIC panicked and accepted a school they didn’t need to, but to say that people want the non-top 3 banished is…silly and non-sensical. Crookston is about the only school where people have that feeling. And likely justified.
