Should Jamestown be accepted into the NSIC?

Another factor: Maybe the NSIC has knowledge of a member school exploring other options? They may want to wait and see how that/those situation(s) plays out first. That would be the responsible move anyway. Waiting is just fine.

There is a potential opening that they aren’t actively looking to fill. That sounds like they can be choosy to me, and not jump at the first school that shows interest in moving up.Originally posted by Stanger86 View Post
There is an opening. Everyone sees it. Are they advertising for it? Maybe not. But it doesn't mean it's not there. Jamestown saw it. I'm sure Morningside sees it, as does Grand View and whatever other schools people think would be better. And getting by fine with 15 doesn't mean they wouldn't be better off with 16, whether Jamestown or someone else.
No doesn’t mean NO forever. It can be no for now.
It almost seems like you’d financially benefit from it for how hard you’re lobbying! Haha

That's the point of the no vote for right now, if someone better wants in they should take it. The NSIC doesn't need to add Jamestown just because we lost 1 team. There's no immediate need!Originally posted by Stanger86 View Post

Definitely not personal and disagreeing keeps this board alive! Haha
i look at it this way… The NSIC does not have a sign posted “Now Hiring” nor have they posted an “opening”. In order to get the job, the candidate would have to really wow the hiring committee (NSIC). In this case, it just isn’t there.
Now, if the NSIC did have that opening posted, and Jamestown showed interest, that’s far different.
You’re afforded the ability to be much more choosy when not in a position of desperation. The NSIC doesn’t need to expand, or fill any openings, as of now.

Many reasons regarding volleyball. Coaching would be one of them. Another is no pressure from alumni on the athletic department/volleyball team. No history of winning, like many other NSIC schools. Among many more.Originally posted by MrMustang View PostThink of it this way -- why aren't you guys better at volleyball? same advatages there in volleyball in all the other sports. school size, location, facilities. it's pretty easy to explain. In volleyball everyone is fully funded so it is a level playing field and so the coach matters, etc. In football, Mankato is fully funded and others arent. Not Mankato's fault but it gives perspective.
I was under the impression Mankato was just over 34, but you may be right about fully funded. I think there are also a ton of factors that go into the Mavs success over the last 15 years, including the Dakota schools jumping up a level and being able to scoop up those D2 level players and build a program. If given the same offer at SMSU and MSU for football, where would you go? Well, maybe not necessarily YOU! Ha

it's ok we disagree on Jamestown. It's not personal.
As I pointed out, perhaps it is Mankato that has outgrown the NSIC -- or maybe the rest of the league should get to 15,000 students and also be Mankato. That is also a reasonable position and opinion.
t's a fact that there Mankato is the outlier. If I was a Mankato fan no way I would want to leave. Huge advatages is money and funding - huge. You can win national titles. probably won't at FCS. Also hockey to help fund other sports which is an advantage.

My dislike of the Jacks has set you off plenty of times before, and it's been the most vocal thing I've disliked on this board. Forgive me for assuming, I guess, given our conversation history.Originally posted by NSU4LIFE View Post
Who said anything about the Jacks? I'll I said was you've talked down about 100 different teams, or conferences or states, education systems. It's literally never ending. You hate fcs yet go to games, you hate PFL but get excited about a near win, you hate south dakotas education system yet are getting a degree there...nothing I said is false, I'm just wondering if there is anything you actually enjoy.
I'm not pursuing a degree in the SD education system. The SD education system doesn't award college degrees, they award HS diplomas - a truly amazing and hilarious error on your part that can't be chalked up to semantics. But I digress. Public education in SD is some of the worst in the US. That's not my opinion, it's a fact - you can dispute it or not, I guess. I've said nothing negative about the universities here - unless you count that time I said SDSU was average for a state flagship, which it is.
Name the 100 teams I dislike. I'll wait. I've been to two FCS games this year, and have no more plans too for the foreseeable future. I enjoy getting out on the weekends and seeing different things, regardless if I think I may or may not like them. Sorry if I get excited when my abysmal team shows a little fire... yadda yadda yadda.
It's truly an honor to be called a Debbie Downer by one of the more negative people on this platform though. Maybe I can get some kinda profile badge for "Old Man Award." I'd like that.

This was your original that I stated read more like an indictment of St Cloud and Crookston than a pro-Jamestown piece. 4 and 5 were the only ones making a case for them and they weren’t super strong.
Your latest post was more pro-Jamestown.
Maybe Southwest should join the GPAC that they have so much in common with? Seems to make more sense.

Solid post all around. But St Cloud would beg to differ ;)Originally posted by MrMustang View Post
accurate that many insitutitions value all the sports --- obviously football means more if it makes money but from a Title 9 standpoint, for example, you have to put money into all programs even cross country like football (as an example).

correct on the conference.Originally posted by NSU4LIFE View Post
Maybe the NSIC office but certainly schools do not. I could go on for days on this topic but simply put there are sports that generate revenue, and ones that don't. There are sports that get more interest than others. There will never be a day when you see football teams tailgating at a cross country meet or pregaming for a womens tennis tournament on campus. I've fought this battle (with some reason added) for over half of my life. It is unfortunate that regardless how much support you give it doesn't always go both ways, but it's just a sad, sad truth.Last edited by MrMustang; 10-11-2023, 11:19 AM.

You speak some truths. The league supports student athletes, meaning the cross country runner is as valuable as a basketball player. We are not a power 5 conference where football generates a tremendous amount of revenue. We are a small group fanatics that follow mostly men's football and basketball. I'm sure the powers to be want competitive teams, but for every intra league win there is a loss.
the reality is from a school standpoint and title 9 standpoint being good in women's soccer matters too.
The problem with that -- not a complaint -- is most average casual folks don't care about womens soccer and do about football and basketball.
hard to get big donations (not impossible) for women's soccer - easier for football in most cases.
and if you are good in football, there is a residual of averag students coming that isn't there for being good at women's soccer. so the insitutions would actually be better off from an enrollment standpoint (and the bottom line) being good at football than.
I hear lots of lip service on being good at football -- especially the last 15 years at SMSU, but little action. to be fair way to early for the NEW AD to judge.
I can say lots of lip service from the last 2 presidents but mostly action otherwise (example canceling Hawaiian Night). The tone deafness is interesting.
Great if we are good at golf -- hope we are, but it all flows from football. I have head many say and observe "if we get off to a good start in football, there is just a different vibe regarding all the sports" and that is often from non revenue coaches -- it is true they understand you need good football - makes the school more attractive to recruits and the school better for many --

LOL! Yeesh.
Sorry I don't like the Jacks. My advice is to just deal with it. I'm not required to like them. I'd "apologize" for the PFL too - but we both know you couldn't care less about them either, so stop beating your chest over it.
I spent Saturday night with 40,000 people in close quarters who hate my favorite FBS team with a passion far deeper than I'm capable of feeling towards SDSU - yet I'm not whining about it. Kinda neat how that works.

To be fair, you think almost everything sucks at this point and that's been made quite clear. I can't even keep up with the amount of teams, levels, etc that you have given some negative thoughts about. I don't even think there is anything left that you enjoy, but maybe there never was.
