At least Bemidji offers football..... If they didn't offer football, I am sure they could offer more sports, like St. Cloud.

Go back to the founding members in 1932, Bemidji, Duluth, Mankato, Moorhead, St. Cloud and Winona. Throw in Southwest and one more (Concordia?) and get to 8.

True, but the AD as a whole is lackluster outside of having Football. Even with the sports Bemidji sponsors, the success level isn't there....Concordia overall has a case despite bad football. If we are going to go Have's and Have-not's at this point.

I have a soft spot for BSU as my Uncle used to play there and we have been the left-behinds in college hockey but BSU is more athletically aligned with the Minots and SMSU's at this point.

So basically, you'd rather see our conference die off like the NCC did or the GNAC practically has than to stay afloat in an evolving college sports landscape?

Evolve, not die. There always were 2 conferences in the Upper Midwest, and if the likes of Jamestown and Valley City State are getting invited I'm sure you can add others of that size and ilk. If anything the Upper Midwest would gain a 2nd Auto-bid from a split and might see the rise of some programs who get the taste for success and can bolster booster money from that.

As far as preferences go I'd prefer the split, then D1, staying put, over adding any more schools just for the sake of "protection"

Augustana over Concordia. Then you'd have all the hockey schools together.

Augie maybe, Mankato no way, cant even win a national title after playing us “crème puffs” all season combined with the cost and Minnesota politics it ain’t happening

In order to even have enough schools to be able to split, schools coming into Division II have to first join a current conference.

The NSIC missed an opportunity to absorb the schools from the Northstar. That would have been enough schools to split and form that new conference. The problem was I don't think all the schools wanted to go the NCAA route.

The moves are being made. The next wave of realignment is 4 years away. I forsee MSU and Augie invited to the Summit!

Pretty clear how it would split...Seems to me 9/7 as of now. If Dakota State makes the move as we've speculated that makes 8, then go ahead and beg Valley City State to join.

MSU, Augie, UMD, Winona, CSP, Mary, Wayne, Sioux Falls, St. Cloud, Mary (floater)

Bemidji, Crookston, Moorhead, Minot, Jamestown, Northern State, SMSU...add in Dakota State and Valley City State then we are tied at 9 a piece. Or you could just do Mary and lose the NAIA schools so it's 8 a piece.

Still Upper Midwest, Still local. Schools that seem to invest in athletics and schools that don't have the resources.

                      • Hate to ruin the fun. A new D2 conference must have 10 active and provisional members. Then there's the 5 year wait for AQ status. And depending on what combination of schools leave for the new conference, some sports could fall below the 6 minimum for AQ.

I was told this by the president of one of those schools at a football game. His suggestion was that they all go D2 and that way would join the NSIC in some form. But he also said that not all Frontier schools were willing to go D2 and wanted to stay NAIA.

Not enough. This is exactly my point. If this is on the list of potential outcomes (which I believe is likely), then schools need to continue to join the NSIC in order for it to happen. I don't expect Dakota State to join the GLIAC or the MIAA, so the NSIC is where they will end up.

Will the Summit even exist by that point? They seem to keep hemorrhaging members.

                              • If any type of split happens, would MnSCU require the State University schools stay together?
