Concordia-St Paul has Women's Lacrosse in the GLIAC. Augustana had a plan to add a women's team but it quietly disappeared.

Since when are they not able to compete? Was the entire university ruled ineligible?Originally posted by SW_Mustang View Post
Just crazy to me that a public school is fielding sports teams for adults in a competitive lane while not being able to compete - and we're all expected to babysit them.
Some people are going to be in for a rude awakening in the employment world if they think my take is harsh...
It's about standards. Some people say you must live in New York City or Los Angeles to be the best. Does that make someone in Brookings or Redwood Falls "not able to compete"? Does Daktronics have the same standards for excellence as Samsung or LG? Are the people who work for Daktronics somehow inferior or required to be babysat?

Semantics on the bolded. Finishing last in nearly every sport, nearly every year is not competitive.Originally posted by Stanger86 View Post

Dak is actually the leader in that industry - unlike Crookston, they finish in first place. A lot. It's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

Does Gymnastics count against their Title IX requirements seeing as how they do not compete in the NCAA?Originally posted by WSUWarriorFan View Post
Of the 14 sports they offer, 9 are womens.
Men have football, cross country, basketball, baseball, and golf. Women have cross country, volleyball, basketball, softball, golf, tennis, gymnastics, soccer, and track & field. Tennis or track and field would probably be the cheapest to add if they had too.
Do any schools in the NSIC sponsor Lacrosse?Mavs > Everyone

I honestly have no idea on how any of that works. I'll let someone smarter than myself answer.
Club sports are covered by Title IX regulations, but they are evaluated separately from varsity/intercollegiate athletics and generally do not count toward your school's core varsity participation numbers or scholarship quotas.
Because Title IX categorizes intercollegiate, club, and intramural sports as distinct programs, compliance in one does not determine compliance in the others.
How club sports factor into Title IX can be broken down by category:
1. Separate Compliance & Evaluation
Even if a school has a women's club team, that club does not offset the school's obligation to provide fully-funded varsity opportunities. Club sports are evaluated on their own, meaning the school must ensure equal:- Funding and financial support relative to club participation
- Access to facilities, practice times, and coaching
- Equipment, uniforms, and travel accommodations
When the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) evaluates whether a school is providing equal athletic opportunities (such as the proportionality test), club athletes are excluded from the count. Varsity athletes are the only ones factored into the official participation quotas used to assess compliance with the law's "substantial proportionality" requirement.Millsy

Maybe it is time for MSU-Mankato to leave the NSIC again? I mean, they have done it twice already, and maybe they are just getting too big for us lower life forms.Originally posted by zimmy21 View PostMaybe it's time BSU reconsiders hockey sponsorship.
If the MIAC can boot St. Thomas out, maybe it is time for the NSIC to boot Mankato? Then they could go D-I and avoid all the probations.Millsy

How the hell does Jamestown sponsor 18 sports, 4 ACHA hockey teams and Men's soccer, accepted into D2 GNAC conference. The GNAC is in the northwest, including 2 Alaska teams and Simon Frazier in Canada. Also, Men's Volleyball where they reside in the GLVC. Crazy!!!Originally posted by Millsy View Post
If only we all had a filthy rich donor or two like Glen Taylor, things would be so much easier.
