It is said far too often. But like most nicknames, you don’t pick it yourself.

Yeah, there’s no perfect place in the country. We just all think our own little region is the best. Haha. We have to justify living where we do somehow.

    • Apologies in advance for the following rant. I told myself I was staying out of this, but alas here I am.

As someone who lives in the center of the Venn diagram of realignment and conference additions (Big 12, WAC, LSC), it appears that even though the ADs and Presidents have more information than everyone else, they do not always make the most logical decisions. It seems that in many instances the decisions are more political than anything. While I always assumed it was a purely financial decision, I have been disabused of that naive notion recently.

I believe that the addition of one team or the jettison of another based on any reason other than what the addition (or subtraction) does for the whole of the conference, not only immediately but in the future, is damaging. But again, I now understand there is more at stake than finances, logic, and reason. At this point, I would completely understand Mankato leaving due to an institutional thought that the NSIC was being watered down. I don't necessarily agree but would understand them thinking that. I also would completely understand Wayne leaving due to a perceived "grass is greener" in the MIAA thought. Again, understanding and agreeing are two different things, I don't agree but do understand.

The Big 12 learned the hard way that when you expand, you have to expand to improve or you are by definition weaker. It appears the addition of Jamestown is another addition that brings no improvement, but merely convenience. Regardless of what happens with Jamestown, it may be time for schools, alumni, and supporters to pressure the leadership to make moves that make the NSIC better academically and athletically, not just more convenient.

But what the hell do I know, I live 1000 miles away.

Yes. And people refer to Wisconsin as Whisky. And people from Iowa Iowegians.

Years ago a friend of mine was in a band that was playing in Hawarden, IA. They had a singer who was a recent transplant from out east. Leading up to the show the band members kept referring to people from Iowa as "Iowegians", and the singer wasn't aware that it was a derogatory term. He assumed it was just what people from Iowa were called. When they started their concert, the singer walked out on stage and announced, "Hello all you Iowegians!"

My friend said from that point on they were competing with the juke box which people kept feeding with quarters the whole night.

I taught in Iowa for a year, nine miles south of the border. A friendly guy at the restaurant and I were talking about this subject and he laughed and said, "Well, we call Minnesotans wood ticks!"

I think you hit the nail on the head with the bolded area. It seems like recent additions have only watered down the league in terms of competition. For a conference with a handful of nationally known names and championship contenders, this move doesn't seem to elevate the conference's brand in any way. Do we really need another ND team? It's not as if teams in the league are dying to get into ND recruiting territories.

                Careful now…that’s elitist talk ;)

Agree with you and WPHB. That’s been the drum some of us have been beating the whole time. This is addition for ease, not improvement. I think I have made that post about 15 times in this thread! Haha

That needs to be an alternate helmet logo!

I've waffled back and and forth on this so many times over the past year I'm not sure what to think any more. I think this part is spot on, and I guess I don't really think making the job of the NSIC AD's easier should be the #1 reason for admission to the conference. Sure, 13/15 teams is a little inconvenient, more so for football than any other sport. Some teams will struggle to get good out of conference opponents late in the season. The other sports can move games around with more ease. My initial vote on this particular thread was "no" and I guess I'm still probably leaning that way today.

I’m sure it would be welcomed by all 😆

                      Completely non-controversial, perfect for 2023!

But…for one game, it would look pretty bad@ss with the matching Orange/Black uniforms. Sounds like a perfect alternate uniform when they play Jamestown.

First thought when reading this was, oh crap is Jamestown the Cowboys? Then I had to go look and a Jimmie is a Knight apparently.

LOL. I remember when MSU and UNO were both the Indians, and then they both became Mavericks! MSU was July 1, 1977- I think UNO was a few years before that.

                            Ha.

I am being someonewhat serious. Manakto and UMD are very clear they don't want Mary, Upper Iowa etc in the league. at what point do they say "bye" I do think that is a real possibility

Yes, the school colors for MSU from 1936-56 after losing a coin flip to Winona were orange and black (or navy depending on the source). Since that was Buffalo Lake Lakers colors it would be fine with me!
