I think one of the reasons the lague is good in volleyball is lots talent aroudn here but also lots of scholarships.
football lacks parity like volleyball, partially because of the scholarship and budget disparity, but also because football always has great disaprity on every level (already discussed on the thread)

Originally posted by debergfanIn volleyball, the NAIA and NCAA both offer 8 scholarships per team. However, NAIA schools have a few key advantages. NAIA schools have more flexibility with their scholarship packages. For example, NAIA schools can offer scholarships that do not count against the 8 scholarship limit due to the exemptions. This would give them a significant advantage over NCAA schools, which are limited to offering 8 scholarships per team and this advantage will disappear.

If the authors had done any actual research, they would have asked about future of men's volleyball and soccer, including their JV teams, instead of writing propaganda. Westmont is also moving up to NCAA from NAIA, but they will not be eligible to participate in Division II national postseason competition during the three-year transition process. In an article, Peterson said that the university is waiting on the NCAA to decide whether or not UJ will have to sit out the postseason for a period of time, or if they can immediately be eligible for postseason play. Why would Jamestown be any different than Westmont? Jamestown will be eligible for NSIC just as Westmont is for their conference. Did the author do any research? Did the author ask about the Valley City-Jamestown football game? I hope coaches tell anyone being recruited by Jamestown, they won't be eligible for the NCAA tournament for 3 years.
hoops is 10 and most NSIC schools are at 10 in mens and womens hoops

I wouldn't call this very nice..but middle of the pack at best. Off the top of my head I would take the following ahead of it..without giving it a lot of thought....Augie, Northern, USF, SMSU, UMD, Winona, Minot..so I would have it in with Moorhead around the middle..and I would have it slightly ahead of MSUM.
although you and I differ on Duluith - I would call it middle of the pack - no suites !

There have been people who have asked how an addition of Jamestown could impact decisions made by other schools...such as Wayne, Mankato, etc. While the timing of announcements could lead one to believe that adding Jamestown could directly result in other defections, I think people have their blinders on if they think these discussions haven't already been taking place at those institutions behind closed doors. You might think Jamestown is "the final straw" but if these discussions have happened, the league office surely knows about it. The league knew that Upper Iowa was talking with the GLVC. The league knows that Wayne has been approached by the MIAA. The league knows that Augustana has discussed Division I, and surely there are others that likely have as well.
The commissioner talked about how the league doesn't want to eventually become a smaller league (NOTE: this is also key for anyone who desires a split along state lines). If defections have been discussed before Jamestown even became an option, it is the league's duty to do whatever it takes to stay stable at a good conference size.
Not to my knowledge. (Not that I have a ton on inside sources.)

Sharing fields/facilities with the local high school is commonplace across the NSIC. BSU, SMSU, UMary are just a few football programs that share facilities. If I remember correctly, the poking fun of Swisher Field had more with it being off-campus, with no permanent signage, and in a wind tunnel.
BSU doesn’t really “share the facility”, other than allowing the HS team to play home games there on Friday nights, as long as there isn’t a conflict. BSU controls the scheduling and all of their practices are there. There are no Lumberjack logos or anything, other than flags they put up for the HS games. The HS teams actually use locker rooms at Bemidji HS and bus over to BSU…we were visitors there a couple of times.
I’m not sure what SMSU has going on, but I know they host some section and state playoff games.
The areas that have these college stadiums benefit from having a good regional stadium to host bigger games

Upper Iowa doesn't have a track around the field, but otherwise it feels similar to me from a distance.
It's funny you mention the visitor side as a complaint, because that seems to be the setup most people long for at SMSU in order for Mattke to move into a new tier.

Given that Marshall is a small town, it doesn't make much sense to have two football stadiums - especially since the HS is right across the highway. Which is ironic because Marshall does have two football stadiums but one is used primarily for track stuff.
It does get used for postseason HS football and intramural stuff. Then on occasion it's used for SMSU softball (not sure about MHS), marching band competitions, and a concert once in a blue moon or so.
I know Brookings HS uses DJDS for their home field as well. It's quite common in the Midwest it seems.

The original renderings had a huge visitor's section that was set into the berm, but we never got to Phase II of the REC, much like the R/A facility.
Stairwells to the second level were also enclosed and the concourse was a little more developed in the second phase. Be nice if we could find the money to do all of that but that's a dead wish at this point.

Really glad Mary got a win vs. Minot but couldn't believe my eyes giving up 20 points in the last 6 minutes of play. Defence really needs an overhaul, DL lineman were being pushed back 10-20 yrs on each play. The offence has surprised me, Mary was able to get a 3 Star QB from University of Houston transfer Sofian Moussad, he has played well and has been scrambling for his life at times but he has a nice connection with University of Idaho WR transfer Mujeeb Rufai, Rbs Bankhead and Moore have been a great combo. If Mary can get a nice recruiting haul and keep the guys mentioned good things can happen, some big IFS though. One thing is forsure they need to fix their defence.
It could honestly go either way this week.
Now that I think about it, I've been to two SMSU games this year and only saw one TD - and it was a rushing one, from the QB no less.
