Should Jamestown be accepted into the NSIC?

But yet Jamestown is criticized by most here for wanting the same thing....how dare they want to raise their profile as a university!

The biggest criticism from me (and I think most) is of the conference for taking Jamestown. And for those exact reasons.

Good on Jamestown for wanting to be tested.
The NSIC made itself weaker with the addition they didn’t need to make.

I know, im getting too deep. But I, for one, love the challenge of catching up to a school. Anyone who is competitive should.

Of course this is from a former athlete, alumni mentality...but when we got to compete against USD, SDSU, etc I viewed it as a gift. The old NSIC was fun but you were still little brother to the NCC in almost everything. When I got to compete against those other schools, and win, that was the ultimate. Im 100% against success due to lowering the bar, and that is my fear moving forward. When/if we lose Augie and Mankato and whoever else, addition by subtraction isnt a fulfilling award. You should want to chase greatness. CSP volleyball set the bar and raised the level of Volleyball in the NSIC, that is a perfect example.

I'm in full agreement with your sentiment. Last year when we ruffled SDSU feathers it was delicious feeling. The biggest winner was UJ after that bean counting AD's in North. I'm sure for competitive reasons fans would have preferred the John boys from SJU. I don't know much about MIAC maybe Johnnies nothing special.

Think Jims are making it up as time passes. Driving buses and vans to Nebraska wasn't substantiable, costly, no natural rivals and being the pariah of the GPAC. They recognized the opportunity with the NSIC and pounced on it. Just so happened they were the only applicant for the opening and have a perfect location. AD's at NSU, MSU, MARY and MSUM are very pleased.

From what I hear they have a more than decent ACHA D1 club hockey team. Maybe the end goal is to play D1 hockey.

If that is the case, they are going to need really big dollars as they will need a rink.... Mary and Minot at least have rinks that would work.

Beats me. My guess though is their goal is to raise the university profile. Whether or not that’s it, or will work, is up for debate.

Crookston has baseball and the degree says Univ. of Minnesota on it. But I think even Crookston knows they are misplaced in the NSIC, maybe even D2.

I know anything is possible, and there is a small chance that Jamestown maybe has some donor that can change the landscape for them…BUT, I don’t see this getting much better for them in any sport. Many people say, “give them time”. And again, that very well may be the case. But all programs have regressed (of course) and none are winning. When you’re at the bottom, many players don’t want to jump on board. And even though some believe it matters more than others do, their size and location won’t do them favors in that regard either.

I think we’re seeing the Jamestown we’re going to see.

To me, in my opinion, Jamestown didn’t have a plan. Last year, their weaker teams didn’t play anyone but Minot. Volleyball didn’t play anyone good imo.

their volleyball which was the flagship sport, scored 12 in a set. 12!?!? They’ve recruited mostly mn and nd. You think they’re going to pull the top Minnesota kids in the nsic?

Imo jamestown has to sell playing d2 sports. Competing for nationals is over. Done, shipped sailed.
