Thank goodness for the Rule of 90- I was able to take advantage of that. They also had a one time offer for Rule of 85. The guy across the hall wanted to teach about two more years- the principal basically told him he would be an idiot since it would be a one time offer and he would have to teach for years before being eligible. He wisely listened to him.

I coached with and against about a dozen coaches who started teaching in SD and then came to Minnesota because the money was much better. On the other side, MN taxes are also much higher.

It's different for everyone, but given how low incomes are in SoDak and how high the sales/property taxes are - it might be a wash for many.

About the only thing I miss was the socialized public utilities. I can see why people hate Xcel so much lol.

I'd still trust the Learing Center over the best schools in South Dakota - free tampons is just a perk for Kristi Noem's husband. A real South Dakota man.

South Dakota is bottom of the barrel in the US when it comes to teacher pay. I should know, my mom taught there for 40 years. The beginning pay might be OK, but the top end in most districts doesn't come close to Minnesota. There's about 10 other points that I can make about Minnesota being better, but I'll save those for when we're trying to get this thread to 300 pages

What I've heard is that NAIA is fast becoming a private/religious school group that is shutting the last remaining public colleges out of the decision making process. So I would guess nearly all public schools in NAIA are trying to find an appropriate D2 or D3 home.

But I would say no one will reclassify unless they decide later on they don't like the current setup. Or if they have eyes on moving up like the rumors have said here about Dakota St.

Dakota State is probably the big one to keep an eye on, yes.

The Frontier East division is effectively the same as the North Star was. Dickinson St, Valley City, Mayville, Dakota St, Bellevue, with Bismarck St being the new addition to the NAIA. This is outside of football, so for most sports travel isn't any worse than the North Star was. (or what the NSIC would be) In football, Bellevue doesn't play football and Bismarck St hasn't started their program yet, so the Dakota schools have to play a few Montana schools during divisional play. So that does add extra travel time.

I don't think anything is imminent, but given the uncertain nature of the future of college athletics, it wouldn't come as a surprise to me in the next 5-10 years to see one or more schools make the move.
