Did you want a doctoral thesis on it instead?

Let's cut out all the fluff and I'll ask you point blank - does NDSU have a brand that they want to expand nationally, yes or no?

If no, why not (and provide examples)? If yes, what is the best way to do that?

Did they not get any benefit whatsoever being on TV against Colorado? If they didn't, why are there local news articles talking about TV numbers?

I don't know why it's such a disagreeable position that NDSU wants to build and push a brand, especially coming from someone so adamant that MSU do the same. For people upset on my position about FCS football, isn't this what you should want? For FCS teams to have as many eyes on them as possible, regardless of means?

Can't believe I'm actually defending NDSU but business is paramount over sports affiliations.

I also already acknowledged your points - see the bottom of my post.

It's interesting - but the fundamentals of branding aren't as difficult as the thread makes them out to be.

The Bison want recognition any way they can get it. For a school hellbent on building a national brand, I'd be hard pressed to believe that the trophy helps them more than P4 games and NFL Draft Picks.

Fact is - NDSU brings far more prestige to the FCS title than the FCS title brings to NDSU.

And I know - Colorado, Deion, Hunter, Shadeur - that game isn't drawing 4.76 if they're playing Indiana State. People wanted to see what was going to happen because NDSU had a legitimate shot.
Yeah, those are nice. But they're not sustainable IMO, but winning an FCS championship is. But if you're thinking of a national brand, being an FCS powerhouse isn't going to do it either. NDSU will need to dominate on a national stage, and that requires being in one of two or three FBS conferences- and they are not getting an invite to any of them.

Really the only way for NDSU to build a national brand is to keep sending more of their players to the NFL- as high draft picks that get a lot of press pre-draft and have them become stars. Having a Carson Wentz every so often isn't going to cut it.

I don't disagree with anything you've said here. The funding of the stadium and the financial position of the school are two different things because they're two different pots of money, and that's why I distinguished the two. Our disagreement seems to be on the financial position of the school, which is absolutely okay.
I don't know what MSU would do if they can't money from the state. I suppose they can try raising private funds again but I think that's going to be tough after Future State. From what I've heard they're exploring other "visions" of what Armstrong's replacement would be to make it more viable.

As far as MSU's financial position, I'm just saying that every public university is in some kind of "financial pinch," that's all.

Hey congrats on being the most terminally online D2 poster! Big accomplishment for a rural South Dakotan.

It's good to know I don't rub you in any kind of direction and that you show that extreme indifference by dedicating juuuuuuuuust enough energy to hit that post button down there.

But you're right - I shouldn't have expected a Northern State guy to have any understanding about how academics works. That's the only thing you've actually been right about. Well, that and me attending SDSU. Kinda regret that. At least I didn't pay for it. I'm flattered you remembered though :)

    Have a good night, sport.

Nice loaded question. Love it. Ok at who’s sensitive now 🤣 Being that there have been 2 established trophies for quite some time, and there isn’t realistic talk of adding any more, I’m not sure why you’re worked up about it. To answer your question directly, 2. And the reason why is because FCS isn’t something they just recently made up to give everyone a trophy. It even has a differentiator included in the name. Most people understand that and don’t get it confused. Lots of sports have multiple trophies for different levels. That’s the part you seem unable, or unwilling, to accept. While they are both Division 1, there are two very clear divisions within it. Minor league baseball is ALL minor league baseball, but has rookie league, low A, high A (gasp, both A ball level), double A and triple A.

You’re right, silly you. Your Colorado cherry picked example has already been picked apart. A national TV game for Deion’s circus that already had a built in following? Say it isn’t so that almost 5 million watched.
Also, App State had that nice win many years ago. And have fallen back into irrelevance. So what’s your point on that?
Man - you're my favorite poster to go back and forth with. But you could have just said "2" lol

I need to hop off for the night - I enjoy going back and forth with you, so don't take our discussions personally regardless of how animated we both get (I don't think you are - but just so you know where I'm at).

Either NDSU benefits from being in front of a peak 5.2, or they don't. I made the claim that it's beneficial for them regardless of the circumstances - and you said I was picked apart. Now you're saying it was beneficial for them. I genuinely don't understand - is it, or isn't it? Why or why not?

I'm quickly learning that it doesn't make me a lot of fun at parties - but I see college sports through a business lens. Part of it is what I do for a living, part of it is my Marketing degree - but it's how I see the world. I winced a bit when the SMSU logo appeared in an unflattering YouTube video with close to 2 million views a couple weeks ago.

I don't have to speak for NDSU to know they like money. They want more people to know who they are, and to do that - they need to be in front of as many people as they can, as often as they can. I can say that because it's how every school operates... like... for example... Jamestown joining the NSIC. Good night everybody!

Yeah, you're right. NDSU definitely doesn't care about getting attention any way they can. Silly me for questioning you.

Colorado and NDSU agreed to the game when Colorado wasn’t winning football games or on the national stage (pre-Deion). NDSU kinda lucked into the large spotlight, and am sure they were happy to be there.

Okay - answer me this. You think it's absolutely incomprehensible that I want DI to have one trophy like literally every other sport in every other facet of society. But then you scoffed at my obviously sarcastic comment to add an additional fourteen trophies to DI football. Where is your line on how many are acceptable and how many aren't, and why?

You're right - NDSU doesn't want to be judged by the FBS teams they beat. It's completely irrelevant to their brand. Silly me lol. App State beating Michigan? Nah, just another day at the office.

    Good lord.
