Not saying that aspect is satisfactory to join the NSIC*, but it's something the rest of the NSAA (and even GPAC) doesn't have.

*Hypothetically speaking, of course. In reality, having a pulse seems to be the biggest entry requirement.
I'd still take DSU over Jamestown

I would too at this point. I think they have a much higher upside in football/basketball (long term)

Madison SD is a much smaller city than Jamestown and is around 40 miles from Brookings also a very strong SDSU fan base. I don't know why the league does not court better candidates in Iowa.

More appealing to invite substandard schools that the majority of schools can beat

Yup. But we're okay with Wayne and previously Fayette in that department. It's a better location than either of those in terms of conference footprint.

DSU has their own core of dedicated alumni. I'm sure most schools do, but it's worth mentioning. Also the growing presence in SF may (or may not) make them a bigger player regionally. That remains to be seen.

I'm not advocating that we pick them up (especially current state) - but I'm just saying I'd rather have them than Jamestown.

I want Morningside, but that'll never happen.

I want Morningside, but they'll never give up what they have to join us and like you said - we'll never court them as they may pose a competitive threat at some point.

I like Sioux City too, which is a bonus. I shouldn't say that too loud though, Briar Cliff exists.

M'side has a nice campus and is not too far outside of our footprint - might even say it's within.

If you draw a border using Minot (Northwest), Duluth (Northeast), Winona (Southeast) and Wayne (Southwest) it's definitely inside the footprint of the conference...not by much but it would be in there

As long as Wayne is in the NSIC, it definitely is in the footprint.

If conference could entice M'side or even Northwestern or Grandview it would add a state to the league's membership and add a close competitor for Wayne. Too bad league is looking to path of least resistance.

The league needs a split or contraction. We don't need to add any more.

                          Morningside is within the footprint.

But Grand View is not, even when Upper Iowa was a member.

Great idea, let’s end up like the NCC!

I mean, they are further north than Wayne is so in that sense yeah - but they're an outlier on the southern end.

I mean... under that logic, if we added Valdosta State, then Missouri Western would be in the conference footprint.

I get they are further north than Wayne, and not that far south of SF - but they aren't exactly in the heart of the conference either.

Still, it's a minor point and I kinda want them over the other NAIA options around.
