Yes, let's. The top dogs move up and the left behinds find a new conference and dominate. Seems like a win-win.

Someone who isn't blocked by a paywall will have to give me the TLDR

The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its decision to dissolve by the end of the 2024-2025 academic year, leaving Mayville State and three other schools to find new conferences. Mayville State is exploring various options, including joining the Frontier Conference in Montana, although travel challenges exist. The school is also considering joining an NAIA conference due to a seamless transition. However, a move to NCAA Division II or III hasn't been ruled out. Mayville State is carefully considering the impact on coaches and student-athletes and hopes to make a decision when the right opportunity arises, with a target timeframe of spring or summer.

Anyone venture if Valley City is more likely to go Frontier or D3?

                    GPAC requires football I think.

I am very curious what happens to the 3 remaining Dakota schools. All three schools ahve been around a long time and seem to be pretty stable and serve a good niche.

I will say this about them. Very affordable as it relates in comparison. We looked at Mayville and Dakota State, and Valley City State for both of my kids -- - they are about 65% of the cost of MnSCU schools like Moorhead, Southwest, Bemidji etc.

Yeah, smaller schools, smaller towns, but they have pumped out 1000s of teachers the last 50 years who have kept all those small town schools in Minnesota, SD, and ND going. My Dad was one of them from Mayville. State. Also many solid small college athletic programs over the years, Mayville in baseball, Valley in women;s sports etc.

I hope they find a place because there is a need for them and they are the right fit for many kids looking to play college sports.

I know lots of debate about can they go D2 - regardless, they have a purpose.

And I admit I am in the minority here, I'd much rather live in Valley City or Mayville than Minneapolis

which is one reason Mankato (years ago now) came into the NSIC rather than making the jump to the Summitt with the Dakota schools ( they viewed ost of the schools as schools they could beat)

Dakota State has a pretty well know program regarding computer science and cyber security - seems like a niche.

I brought it up once that SMSU should add it but our school leaders would rather pump out more humanities majors than folks who could go out and make a bunch of money and be good alums

I can't see Northwestern ever leaving the GPAC. They can recruit 90% of their kids withing 3 hours and be a NAIA power
