Qb Nate Kollath is on the updated roster. Wonder how they got him to come back.

Any word on the golf outing attendance? Judging by the auction I'd guess still very down. I'd trade all the bells and whistles to go back to the Ole days and playing at the Swisher up north if it meant keeping the community connection that made Northerm special to begin with.

The fear with the investments and stafff changes.was losing the identity of Northern State, something that people moving in know very little about.

Between myself and many others, it just appears to be fading more and more.

The entire campus is about to be new buildings, not a lot of tenured coaches, rise in scholarships has happened a bit, and I do not blame the school for making those decisions. But as far as a fan base, people are still hoping for the best (that I talk with) but there seems to be very little connection anymore.

I hope it works, I hope it improves, I don't cheer for anyone to be fired, but when you lose your identity, it makes things tough. Mens basketball is just completely gone as of now. Biggest drop off in recruiting, success and former player support you could could imagine, which is surprising and hard to hear them talk about.

Awesome. I was at the SMSU game last year. Had a great time. Liked the stadium and the fact I could stand in the end zone area. Went to a bar attached to a hotel for a few cocktails before the game. Can’t recall the name of it however.

I've been through it too....I remember the excitement around 2008 for me, coming off opening a brand new stadium and having our best season in a decade, naively I thought we had bumped up into that next tier. But the reality is that those gaps are pretty large within the NSIC so making comparisons like that only sets you up for disappointments and failures as a fan.
I suspect largely the gap (have & have nots) is due to financial means; money to fill 36 scholarships, pay coaches, alum donors that buy nice things, etc... I would be shocked if the top teams didn't have funding for all 36 scholarships and more money going to support the program in general.

Well Northern is now fully funded for the next few years at least so interested to see if that makes an impact. I feel like Northern does an above average job when incomes to everything else so to me their biggest challenge to being in the upper echelon of the conference is location.

Good for NSU! I can't imagine more money would hurt a program. When coaches are sitting on couches in houses and they can offer a "full" ride with financial aid and such that's a big deal. More money to spread out is the difference for many guys. Most kids will take the best deal financially.

Going to the USD NSU game, I understand that matchup difference and likely outcome, however I don’t know much about the NSU team. Any names to look out for?

This may not be an exciting list as I have no idea what to expect from our skill players and they will likely be very overmatched against USD, but there are a couple guys I'm excited to see. The first is #14 LB Luke Gunderson. He's been tabbed on a couple of watchlists for possible postseason senior games. In recent years he has returned kickoffs and punts as a LB so you know he has the athleticism. The second is #54 LB Jake Adams. He was inserted into the starting lineup about half way through his true freshman season last year and tackled everything that moved. It will be interesting to see if these 2 LB can have any success against USD. The final player is #79 OL Jacob Schloe. He is probably an FCS caliber player and he will have his chance to see if he can hold up against a good defense.

The FCS QB that transferred the will be the starter. Word on the street is not a lot of players though that was the correct move but we will see.

Have a couple good RB’s the watch for on offense.

I think this is a great game for Northern. They have nothing to lose and are approaching it in that regard. Get to match up against a very talented team.

That's interesting...I'm assuming Hackel would be the other option at QB? He showed flashes at times last year (mostly running the ball) but was pretty inconsistent before he got hurt. I think he will very likely get some playing time this season as well. I do think Northern could have a couple of pretty good RBs as well, I just hope they come out of week 0 unscathed. Best case scenario is a low scoring, low possession game on Thursday night. Keep that clock running as much as possible.
