To your earlier point, that really did look like the most complete team we have ever had. Gypsy Days is always great, but that was one of the best ones so far. When we absolutely housed Winona and Will Madler had kind of a (what we thought at the time) breakout day, I was on the sidelines for that was and it was awesome.

Another very good game for the Wolves, but I can’t shake the feeling that NSU can still play better. The offense was pretty efficient despite getting stopped short on one 4th down inside the 5. Both QBs looked good and while I don’t love a 2 QB system, this does seem to be working so far.
Oddly enough, it’s the defense where I see a potential problem. The Wolves operate a bit of “bend but don’t break” style of defense. CSP was able to move the ball but eventually their drives would stall. The Wolves D has been great against Wayne and CSP, but against teams that can really run the ball like USF (or UMD) it is going to be an issue.
This NSU team is really good, maybe the best since I’ve been around Aberdeen. The fact that I’m even talking in terms of competing with the top of the NSIC is a good sign. The Wolves will need to take care of business again next week at Mary against a FR QB that would appear to be quite good. Mary has been a bit of a problem over the year. Hopefully the team can focus on 1-0 each week, as the fanbase certainly has its eyes on bigger things this season.

One of the problems we have on defense is lack of pressure up the middle with our DT. Creates lanes for the QB to take off. If you noticed, on sure passing downs we move Van Landingham inside to get some pressure and bring #30 in on the outside.Originally posted by Swisher View PostI messaged our coaches many times to recruit Sheldon. He is a stud. Been watching the hometown kid all his high school career. Can’t let him get out and use his legs or it will be a long day for the Wolves.

Was just going to come and ask the same question.
Really hope they can keep the focus this week. It is easy to see the record of Bemidji and think "we got this" but they have to be ready. No question the Beavers will be hungry to get that first W of the year.

I really think this team feels different from past years, especially after the Mary game, which has tripped us up before under Schmidt. Beating Bemidji would set up one of the biggest games at the Bank against Duluth. To me, this looks like the most talented team we’ve had in the last 25 years, and making the playoffs feels like a very real possibility.

I didn't remember that NSU got Mason Stubbe from Dell Rapids. Here is a hint for you guys in the future. Play that kid as much as you can. Watching him and his HS QB play together was great action. Was hoping the Coo would get him

Good team. Solid on both sides of the ball and has talent. Realistically with the remainder of the season, they have 3 games where they will be even money or underdogs in. Duluth, Moorhead, and Augustana. Northern has to win 2 of those 3, plus all of their other games to have a shot at the playoffs.

Massey has us as three point dogs this weekend. One game at a time for us. 😀Originally posted by tman28 View PostGood team. Solid on both sides of the ball and has talent. Every year under Schmidt we have had one of those losses to a team we should beat. Bemidji has been a good program for the last several years, but Northern cannot lose to an 0-5 team. NSU has also had many unexpected wins under Schmidt. This weekend vs Duluth would certainly qualify. However, I think this is a terrible matchup for the Wolves. Duluth is a very good team, and they are very good at doing what NSU cannot stop. Walljasper is going to be a nightmare on Saturday. NSU couldn't stop a QB from Bemidji that we knew wasn't going to throw the ball and wasn't as good of a runner as Walljasper. The offense is going to have to play lights out to keep up with the Bulldogs Saturday. Night games at The Bank have led to some exciting games, hopefully this one is too.
