I think Northern is the better team but we deserved to lose that game.

    A few thoughts
    - Bemidji played their young QB for most of the snaps this game which made a difference. The other guys weren’t getting it done previously
    - Northern had too many ridiculous penalties. Several unsportsmanlike even BEFORE the game. We haven’t had an unsportsmanlike penalty since I think early last year.
    - Bagozzi couldnt hit water if he fell out of a canoe Saturday. Just had an off day.
    - Schmidt took some of the blame on defense by making bad calls
    - We are once again struggling to get pressure or stops in the run game up the middle. Can get decent pressure on the outside but the QB just takes off. When they move Van Landingham inside the defense plays better. They did that for the first time against UMD last year and end up going on a 6-0 run.
    - After the game three of our players didn’t shake hands with Bemidji. I didn’t like that at all and Schmidt needs to fix that immediately.
    - Not having Kraft really hurt us I think on offense. Kegan being out hurt on defense.

These things get noticed a lot more when you lose games...

What a disappointment, to say the least. Huge opportunity to seize momentum into the middle of the year with the upcoming matchup with Duluth and we lay an egg. Bemidji is about the worst place in the conference as a road opponent and we sure sleep-walked through that one. Going to have to figure it out without Kraft and Kegan because I don't think they'll be back this season. Onto Duluth...

I know BSU can get a little "chirpy" but that is not a good look.

The Northern guys were beyond obnoxious walking down the sidewalk, across the street and into the stadium. I was there to witness it and the last 6-8 guys couldn't even stay with the rest of their group as they walked looking back yelling at the BSU guys the whole time. It was pretty ugly actually (and I know BSU can be chirpy as well)

Shout out to the guy that seemed drunk, wearing a wolf mask and blaring his air horn at the home team

Good. A return to normalcy. Now if we could let student sections be rowdy again.

I dont love players chirping, but I love sports with enthusiasm. In the end, they learned a lesson in needing to back it up. learning life lessons has seemed to go away over the past decade or two, excited for its return.

Schmidt was pissed about that. That was not a characteristic of this program as of late. Having a good culture was something he learned the hard way those first few year. He has admitted that he needed to clean that up through recruiting and bringing in the right transfers that fit a culture of team first. No more Ian’s of the world.

And as you mentioned, Bemidji is pretty much known for this kinda stuff. Both teams got unsportsmanlike penalties BEFORE the game.

The guy you referred to wasn’t drunk 😀. He’s just a dad of a player on the team that likes to be loud. They where custom made shirts at times that say NSU on the front and seek and destroy on the back.

I didn’t have much NSIC or D2 experience and the competitive edge, passionate fans, and decent student sections have been a pleasant surprise! We had a blast at Gypsy Days last year, despite the crappy ending. Bemidji has traveled well often. Northern had a great crowd on Saturday. I’ve seen some great games against Mankato. This board makes it even more fun

I think the D2 fan bases are getting better and better actually. At least in the NSIC

It’s not D1, which I’m some cases is better. I know some are unhappy with the current D1 landscape with NIL and they miss the “old days.” I always encourage them to dive into the NSIC and go support those teams

I've grown weary of NIL and transfer portal. Haves and have not. If a have not grooms a great player, the haves lure him away.

On one hand, I look back at last week and thing what could be.

On the other, we have no reason to go into any game the rest of the way thinking we cant win.

The boys have to stay healthy, get healthy, lock in one week at a time.

                          What an unbelievable win

This team is just different at home. Some of the injuries piling up are concerning, but they took advantage of the opportunities they were given tonight. Britt was a game changer tonight when he came in. Block was amazing! The defense made plays when they had to against a very good offense. There is some needed improvement there, but tonight isn’t the time for that discussion. What a great night!!!

I love to see the entire OL recognized by the team as a “player of the week”. They were great against Duluth. I was shocked at our ability to run the ball against a big physical defense like that.
