I'll probably be out, enjoyed watching it free. I might subscribe and watch if
1). The quality of the video is better e.g. more than 1 camera and someone competent to zoom in and out correctly
2). The cost is not prohibitive as most e.g. $10 a season, no hassle online cancelation
3). Announcers who are competent, some teams have them some don't. I forget whose broadcast but they kept telling the audience over and over on 4th down to punt the ball away and didn't agree with the decision to go for it. The other team, just had to take a knee to end the game with no timeouts LOL

#1 and #3 are likely to be unchanged. Certainly not a guarantee things won’t be better/different, but this is a direct line from the release:

”Production for NSIC Network broadcasts will be the responsibility of the home institution.”

That is the same as it is today.

EDIT: adding that the NSIC network (and Midco+) will be light years better than other options. It was a natural partnership since it was in place already, but HUDL and FloSports are unreliable.

I am nore than willing to pay for great production and telecasts. All other conferences charge so this is coming.

However.when I turn on a game in Crookston, and there is no sound and one camera which misses half the action, i will ask for a refund.

90% of the telecasts will be good though so this is fine.

One more thing, they need to make sure the wifi works at these various schools, which is suspect. SMSU is one of the schools that needs this too improve greatly.

Midco will do a good jobn here too. overall this is an improvement

Not to be the bearer of bad news - but you'll be paying for the exact same content that was previously free. $10/month won't last either - year or two.

I'm not opposed to the NSIC charging for content - but the production quality from some of the schools doesn't warrant a fee. I doubt this generates enough revenue to kick anything meaningful back to the schools either (if that's even the business model to begin with).

The big plus for me personally is having all the Midco-produced content like the NSIC Basketball Tournament without having to pay for a seperate service.

This was inevitable. As long as the cost is reasonable I'm ok with it. As others have mentioned, unfortunately I do not believe this will come with any change in broadcast quality for regular season games. I don't necessarily need more bells and whistles as some of the schools that have the most of that often have the worst production (looking at you Mankato). Hopefully Midco and the NSIC will advise the schools and/or help to improve the production but I'm not overly optimistic. The positive will be that the post season Midco production should be included in this subscription and they do a great job when they are the ones producing the games. Maybe they will even do a few more games as a part of this.

Ahh - I was assuming this would have limited appeal and given the $10 cost, it might not generate that much. Good to know it has been successful elsewhere. Even $20k is a good chunk of change for a lot of NSIC schools.

Absolutely. I have been very grateful to have enjoyed NSIC games free over the years, but this was inevitable. And at this price point and partner, will be far superior to the other options I mentioned in a previous post.

The MIAA has used Hudl (formerly BlueFrame) as its exclusive streaming partner for the past five academic years and in the fall of 2021, became the first Division II conference to have all content behind a paywall. In addition, the MIAA became Hudl’s first collegiate client to surpass $2 million in gross receipts. In 2023-24, the MIAA distributed nearly $700K in Network revenue to its member athletic departments.

I'll be among those who'll pony up. Athletics is the most direct, consistent way for me to stay connected to my alma mater from 1,200-plus miles away. As others have alluded to, I'm kind of surprised it took this long. Streaming not only is the future of sports viewing, it's increasingly becoming the present. Also, at this point in my life, I don't have much better to spend my money on anyway.
